The owner wanted to add a covered deck that would seamlessly tie in with the existing stone patio and also complement the architecture of the house. Our solution was to add a raised deck with a low slope roof to shelter outdoor living space and grill counter. The stair to the terrace was recessed into the deck area to allow for more usable patio space. The stair is sheltered by the roof to keep the snow off the stair. Photography by Chris Marshall

The instructions were clear. Make it Cozy and comforting. Use natural materials, don't hurt the environment, use lots of native plants, create shade, attract bees, butterflies and humming birds. We transitioned the floor tile to the rear shower wall with an inset flower glass tile to incorporate the adjoining tile and keep with the cottage theme

The den which initially served as an office was converted into a television room. It doubles as a quiet reading nook. It faces into an interior courtyard, therefore, the light is generally dim, which was ideal for a media room. The small-scale furniture is grouped over an area rug which features an oversized arabesque-like design. The soft pleated shade pendant fixture provides a soft glow. Some of the client’s existing art collection is displayed.

The mid-century slanted ceiling of the open dining room creates a cozy but spacious area for a custom 9' dining table made of reclaimed oak, surrounded by 8 matching vintage Windsor chairs painted in Farrow & Ball's Green Smoke. Vintage mid-century wicker pendant is echoed by Moroccan straw accents with the plant stand, and wall fan. A large French colorful agricultural map adds charm and an unexpected twist to the decor.
