Creating a place for enjoyment and entertaining was the homeowners request. Having an open concept basement to work with, we designed a theatre room, bar area and wine cellar that the homeowners are able to enjoy everyday.

A Modern Farmhouse set in a prairie setting exudes charm and simplicity. Wrap around porches and copious windows make outdoor/indoor living seamless while the interior finishings are extremely high on detail. In floor heating under porcelain tile in the entire lower level, Fond du Lac stone mimicking an original foundation wall and rough hewn wood finishes contrast with the sleek finishes of carrera marble in the master and top of the line appliances and soapstone counters of the kitchen. This home is a study in contrasts, while still providing a completely harmonious aura.

Upon entering the basement, a large refrigeration center was installed to house wines and other beverages for entertaining. The textured stone framing this storage wall accentuates the rustic design of the space through the natural materials and tones while the details of each cabinet showcase the straight vertical and horizontal lines of this contemporary design.

Walk into the kitchen in this Poway / Rancho Bernardo, San Diego home and it's impossible to miss this gorgeous 2,000 bottle, custom wine cellar showpiece. Completed in 2018, the cellar is complete with custom walnut stained poplar wine racking, rolling ladder for out of reach bottles, and much, much more. Against each window into the kitchen are floor to ceiling frames showcasing label out, metal racking to add a bit of modern flair. Two high reveal display rows circle the entire room, showcasing this homeowner's best bottles and designed to be angled perfectly to ensure the corks stay wet for long term storage. An island in the middle of the room acts as a great spot to open and decant wines, and integrated into each side are custom pieces of cabinetry and room for side displayed large format bottles. Also integrated into the racking is a a small countertop and glass rack. This temperature-controlled wine cellar can house over 1000 bottles. The custom cabinetry went through about 3 different versions between using a premanufactured cabinet vs designing and having a local cabinet company make it. Using the different styles of racks, X cabinets and grid styles of wine storage added to the beauty of this space. The custom table in the middle is for tastings and the back wall cabinet was designed to house all the tools needed for opening up a bottle and the shelves are used to display wine glasses and pictures of their travels. The natural look was used to help showcase the wine bottles as the labels added color. Design Connection, Inc. Kansas City interior designer provided space planning, architectural drawings, barstools, tile, plumbing fixtures, countertops, cabinets and hardware, lighting, paint colors, coordination with the builder and project management to ensure that the high standards of Design Connection, Inc. were maintained.
