Designed to embrace an extensive and unique art collection including sculpture, paintings, tapestry, and cultural antiquities, this modernist home located in north Scottsdale’s Estancia is the quintessential gallery home for the spectacular collection within. The primary roof form, “the wing” as the owner enjoys referring to it, opens the home vertically to a view of adjacent Pinnacle peak and changes the aperture to horizontal for the opposing view to the golf course. Deep overhangs and fenestration recesses give the home protection from the elements and provide supporting shade and shadow for what proves to be a desert sculpture. The restrained palette allows the architecture to express itself while permitting each object in the home to make its own place. The home, while certainly modern, expresses both elegance and warmth in its material selections including canterra stone, chopped sandstone, copper, and stucco. The room is centered on a large wood burning fireplace which was finished with a reclaimed timber mantle we locally sourced and a plaster finish (Portola Paint). One of a kind vintage pieces such as the accent chair and sofa table add character to the living space.

The architecture of this modern house has unique design features. The entrance foyer is bright and spacious with beautiful open frame stairs and large windows. The open-plan interior design combines the living room, dining room and kitchen providing an easy living with a stylish layout. The bathrooms and en-suites throughout the house complement the overall spacious feeling of the house.

For this classic San Francisco William Wurster house, we complemented the iconic modernist architecture, urban landscape, and Bay views with contemporary silhouettes and a neutral color palette. We subtly incorporated the wife's love of all things equine and the husband's passion for sports into the interiors. The family enjoys entertaining, and the multi-level home features a gourmet kitchen, wine room, and ample areas for dining and relaxing. An elevator conveniently climbs to the top floor where a serene master suite awaits.
