The site is just five minutes walk from Lulu Mall and is the second building from highway. Yet the precinct was surprisingly green. The client's parents had built a new house back in 1980s and moved from their adjacent 'Tharavadu' - their traditional homestead to the new one, which unfortunately didn’t reflect the character of the old house. The son (client) decided to resolve this identity conflict by renovating the old house into an abode that suits his modern day needs and at the same time echoing the ethos of his ancestral background. Our challenge was to modify this house justifying the three generations living under the same roof and the ancestral context. We noted that a portion of the old house was not strong and decided to demolish it while the other half was retained. We planned the new requirements in the area of the demolished structure but didn't want to connect it with RCC to the old structure thus giving the option for any future modifications. Hence a long linear court cum lightwell was placed as a buffer between two portions and was done fully in GI and glass.. Thus it becomes easily removable. We also tried to connect courts to the old ancestral house by providing views to the ancestral property.

Who wouldn’t love to have this striking seaside bedroom, with a hidden en-suite accessed via a seemingly normal cupboard door? The owners of this listed property did not know what they wanted to do with the room, and had a simple brief to create storage and an en-suite with a sense of modernity. I introduced them to various strong colours with the idea of complementing the coast with certain textures. They needed guidance, so ultimately I chose Valspar’s “On a Mission” paint for them, and designed bespoke wardrobes spray painted in the same colour. I also designed a headboard and side cupboards which were stained in a Wenge colour, and inlaid with shagreen (fake manta ray skin) to add a luxury texture, feel and sense of the sea. Lighting is apparent in both obvious and hidden forms; behind the wardrobe cornice and shining up from inside the headboard lighting is concealed, and there are ultra-slick reading lights in antique bronze blending with the Wenge of the headboard which can be angled in multiple directions and delicately click on and off when opened. Bold, industrial antique bronze side lights complement the wardrobe furniture and statement dimmable starburst / sputnick lights offer a sun or star like appearance in the ceiling depending on brilliance. All obtained from Cotterell & Co Newcastle. The en-suite required listed building planning consent to have the wall knocked through and now features octagonal tiles with a designer atticus heated towel rail, hidden lighting in a mirrored recessed shelf and touch free over basin mirror. The dark units also complement the colour of the bed furniture. Top of the range white colonial plantation shutters (with retractable secluded black out blinds) from Shuttercraft Newcastle generate a well-appointed colonial feel, with the stark contrast of the white panelling sitting next to the blue walls as clouds would on a hot summer’s day. The tall “Florence” radiators have a traditional style yet modern sleekness to them and they nod to the shape of the shutters. A quality carpet from Global Flooring Studion in an oyster colour finishes the room, together with a Gallatin Karndene tile effect in the bathroom which has a variety of stoney / blue coastal tones. ​

Innovative Design Build was hired to remodel an existing fireplace in a single family home in Boca Raton, Florida. We were not to change the footprint of the fireplace or to replace the fire box. Our design brought this outdated dark bulky fireplace that looked like it belonged in a log cabin, into 2020 with a modern sleeker design. We replaced the whole surround including the hearth and mantle, as well as painted the side walls. The clients, who prefer a more coastal design, loved the traditional brick pattern for the surround, so we used creamy colors in a multi format design to give it a lot of texture. Then we chose a beautiful porcelain slab that was cut using mitered edges for a seamless look. We then stained a custom mantle to match other wood tones in their home tying it into the surrounding furniture. Finally we painted the walls in a lighter greige tone to compliment the newly remodeled fireplace. This project was finished in under a month, just in time for the clients to enjoy the Christmas holiday.
