“Scott was incredibly helpful, he explained a lot to me and gave me advice even after he knew I was not going to use him as an architect, he still took the time to make sure I was on the right track and told me things to ask the architect I was using instead to make sure my project was done right. The only reason I did not go with him was because the architect I originally got a quote from was less expensive because I was tweaking a design they had already created, versus starting from scratch. Otherwise I would have chosen Scott. He is a good person, very helpful and seems like an incredibly knowledgeable architect. I would recommend him for sure.”

The three bedroom, two bath addition perfectly captured our dream of more space without looking like a "McMansion". “My ‘dream house’ was just some vague ideas, a location and a view, and a budget until I was fortunate enough to find the architect Bill Hutchins of Heliconworks (www.heliconworks.org). Working together, in a few months Far Muse was on the drawing boards. Starting with some photographs of old houses I admired in Hardy County, West Virginia, Bill created an environmentally sound, solar augmented, four bedroom/three bath house that is the envy of all of my friends and relatives. From the outside, with its three porches, the house looks like it was first built over 100 years ago and “added on” by succeeding generations. From the inside, the open space with its soaring arch and curved balcony brings to mind the Guggenheim and the Hirshhorn. One of the bedrooms is a “bunkroom” for four grandchildren, and with my little office, the upstairs living area, and an inglenook, we can sleep fourteen people easily. And with a large kitchen and dining area, we can feed them as well! The water pipes for the bathrooms, the kitchen, and the laundry room are in the middle of the house – in case of a power outage in winter, since we’re up 2.4 miles of dirt road. A masonry stove in the living area can heat the whole house with wood. Only when the house was completed did I realize that we had included features from my father’s architect-designed house, destroyed by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. The stone fireplace and tongue-and-groove pine ceiling were part of my father’s dream, and with Bill Hutchins’ help they became a part of mine. Almost a decade later, Bill remains a good friend. He and his wife spent this Memorial Day weekend with us at Far Muse. You can see the house HERE.”

“Paula Morris and Morris Architects have been retained to provide architectural drawings and contractor selection/supervision for a residential renovation in excess of $100,000. Paula is a delight and respects our ideas, adding more of her own that will improve and lead to the success of the project. I have complete confidence and will update this review with progress. Finding a contractor proved more difficult than anticipated in part because our project became less competitive as the economy improved. In time we found a contractor experienced with our product selections, and began a 12 week construction April 1, 2015. Unforeseeable issues with subcontractors and replacement products delayed completion until September. The bathrooms are beautiful, and Paula Morris is an architect to whom I continue to refer to everyone! In sum, as a designer, I would never consider a project again without architect Paula Morris. Paula introduced me to the AIA contract, and as an attorney, I would never approach a construction project without one. The AIA contract as a precise, well-honed tool (working well since 2007) that is necessary to avoid litigation if and when bad things happen. And they do. Finally, as an experienced mediator, I appreciate the AIA contract because it requires the Architect to resolve problems without bringing in new parties. But most of all I appreciate the fact that Paula is not only a great architect and designer, she is also a great mediator -- and on top of that -- a really nice person! Hats off, too, to Paula's partner in the firm, and in life, Bill Morris.”
