“Searl Lamaster Howe is a firm that genuinely listens to the client. The project was a true collaboration, and the results astonishing. The architects are responsive, responsible and super-creative. They took a rundown country house and, essentially maintaining the footprint of the original home, turned it into something splendid at reasonable cost. SLH's attention to detail (e.g. custom cabinetry), use of ecologically sensitive materials, and thoughtful consideration of ongoing operating costs (e.g. geothermal heat and A/C) have contributed to a resounding success. The client is ecstatic, and the project has been recognized by numerous awards from the American Institute of Architects and others, as well as publicity in national newspapers and journals. “We have a small house in Riverside. It is about 1,000 sf. It is a split level modern house built in the 1950's. We wanted an open plan concept with a cathedral ceiling. We removed wall to new ceiling, creating an upstairs loft. The project was completed in 2001.We have lived in it for 11 years! We love the plan and the cathedral ceiling 16' high. Our room is now open 20'x24', with new skylights above the living room. Arlene was a terrific help. We got our plans on time during the design phase, and got our permits without any new work or any changes to our design. We have enjoyed our redesigned home for the past 11 years and would definitely recommend Arlene to our friends! ”

“We engaged Laura to help us figure out how to maximize the living space on the second floor of a 100-year old frame house. We wanted to rearrange the space to add a third bedroom and two bathrooms (the second floor did not have a bathroom) while maintaining the character of the building. We found her professional, pleasant and easy to work with. Her price was fair, and I was especially impressed with Laura's creativity in coming up with a design that worked for us in spite of challenging space limitations and code requirements. We are very pleased with the result, which exceeded our expectations, and would highly recommend her.”

“We've collaborated with Blender on a couple amazing projects. Richard and Maria are a great team with a stellar vision for modern architecture and design. Their ideas are cutting edge and outside the box. Being Interior Designers and artists in design, we appreciate an architecture firm who can obviously understand structure and architecture, but also has an artistic awareness. It pushes us to be creative in a unique way to serve their home designs well with the interior furnishings and soft elements. I would highly recommend Blender Architecture on every level.”
