Contemporary British Kitchen in Ovingdean, East Sussex

The Brief The first time we visited this Ovingdean property was around 15 years ago, when we installed a traditional style kitchen for these clients. The brief for their second kitchen installation with us, was completely different, swapping a traditional style for a clean and modern aesthetic. The requirement for this project sought a clever design incorporating social seating options, as well as including organised storage and a space designated to a fantastic drinks collection. Design Elements The layout of this kitchen makes the most of the space, with a large island the focal point of the main kitchen area. To include the designated storage for food and drinks, designer Aron has placed fitted pantries either side of a chimney breast, each with built-in storage for organisation. The theme is a nod to the coastal location of this property, with a popular azure blue finish combined with gloss white cabinetry used for wall units and the island. The furniture used in this kitchen is from British supplier Trend, with the flat-slab profile door deployed across all cabinetry. To soften edges around the island space curved units have been utilised alongside blanco maple quartz work surfaces from supplier Silestone. Special Inclusions High-specification cooking appliances have been included in this project, with a custom combination of Neff products incorporated to suit the needs of this client. A Neff slide & hide oven, combination oven and warming drawer are grouped within furniture, with full-height Neff fridge and freezer located either side of the appliances. On the opposing side of the kitchen area, a Neff flexInduction hob has been incorporated with an in-built extractor integrated above. Where possible appliances have been integrated behind furniture to not interrupt the theme of this space, with an integrated washing machine and dishwasher located within base units. Project Highlight The designated storage in the dining area is an enviable highlight of this space. One is allocated to ambient foods, with the other used to house in impressive drinks collection, which teams perfectly with a built-in 60cm wine cabinet in the kitchen area. Both boast premium oak internals to help with organisation. The End Result The result of this project is a kitchen that utilises a lovely coastal theme, delivering on the modern brief required. The use of pantry storage for food and drink also leaves a wonderfully organised lasting impression. Our client wanted a kitchen that would effortlessly blend form and function, focusing on maximising space and providing practical storage solutions. They envisioned a space with plenty of drawers and pullouts, ensuring easy accessibility to all their kitchen essentials. Durability and long-lasting wear were paramount; they wanted a kitchen that would stand the test of time. But above all, they desired a sleek and minimalistic design, with all worktop appliances cleverly hidden away to create a clutter-free, easy-to-clean and maintain-friendly environment. Embracing a warm and feminine palette, we chose the Nobilia Sand - Anti-Fingerprint range to set the tone for this elegant kitchen. The soft, neutral shades create a soothing ambience, while the anti-fingerprint technology ensures that the surfaces stay pristine, even with daily use. To add a striking focal point to the kitchen, we incorporated a 20mm Trillium worktop supplied by Dekton. This bold statement piece adds character and offers excellent durability, making it an ideal choice for a kitchen that demands style and functionality. As for the appliances, we carefully selected the best in the market to complement the kitchen's design and meet our client's needs. The Siemens Ovens provide state-of-the-art cooking capabilities, while the Quooker Tap offers instant boiling water for ultimate convenience. The Elica-Nikola Tesla downdraft Hob delivers efficient ventilation and boasts a sleek and seamless appearance, perfectly aligning with the kitchen's handless design. To further enhance the kitchen's functionality, we incorporated some clever features, including sliding doors that lead to a hidden walk-in utility space, ensuring easy access to laundry essentials while keeping them discreetly tucked away. In line with our client's desire for practicality, we added a hidden pullout shelf on the worktop, specially designed to accommodate their heavy Thermomix, making it easily accessible when needed and neatly stowed away when not in use. The island, a central gathering spot, also serves as additional storage space with carefully crafted storage options on the back, making the most of every inch of the kitchen's layout. This kitchen project is a testament to our commitment to making our client's vision a reality. With a focus on space optimisation, practicality, and a feminine touch, this Nobilia kitchen has been transformed into a functional, elegant, and timeless space that our clients will enjoy for many years to come. Garden Retreat have been working with Mr & Mrs M with a view to installing a garden room kitchen, and the great thing about it is it sited on a beautiful terrace that has absolutely fantastic views from the New Forest across to the Isle of Wight and to site the building it will have to be craned up onto the terrace. The first part of the project will be to remove the old summerhouse and extend and level the base in readiness for the new building. This is one project we are really looking forward too……… This contemporary garden building is constructed using an external cedar clad and bitumen paper to ensure any damp is kept out of the building. The walls are constructed using a 75mm x 38mm timber frame, 50mm Celotex and a 12mm inner lining grooved ply to finish the walls. The total thickness of the walls is 100mm which lends itself to all year round use. The floor is manufactured using heavy duty bearers, 75mm Celotex and a 15mm ply floor which can either be carpeted or a vinyl floor can be installed for a hard wearing and an easily clean option. We now install a laminated floor as a standard in 4 colours, please contact us for further details. The roof is insulated and comes with an inner ply, metal roof covering, underfelt and internal spot lights. Also within the electrics pack there is consumer unit, 3 double sockets and a switch although as this particular building will be a kitchen there are 6 sockets.. We also install sockets with built in USB charging points which is very useful and this building also has external spots to light up the porch area which is now standard within the package. This particular model was supplied with one set of 1200mm wide anthracite grey uPVC multi-lock French doors and one 600mm anthracite grey uPVC sidelights which provides a modern look and lots of light. In addition, it has a 900 x 400 vent window to the left elevation for ventilation if you do not want to open the French doors. The building is designed to be modular so during the ordering process you have the opportunity to choose where you want the windows and doors to be. This bespoke family kitchen was part of the renovation of a period home in Frome. The ground floor is a half basement and struggled with dark rooms and a layout that did not function well for family life. New windows were added to the adjoining dining room and crisp white finishes and clever lighting have transformed the space. Bespoke cabinets maximised the limited head height and corner space. Designed in a classic shaker style and painted in Hopper by Little Greene with classic burnished brass ironmongery, it is a timeless design.

The sliding doors by @1st_folding_sliding_doors are 3m tall- the full height of the extension as permitted at planning stage, with the structural build-up of the roof setback and ‘invisible’ beyond. To ensure that the elevation was as clean and minimal as possible, we concealed all of the drainage details so that no downpipes interrupted the vista. @1st_folding_sliding_doors can slide along the track both to the left and the right, stacking at either end of the building. This makes the internal space more dynamic and adaptable to the family’s needs.
