This artistic and design-forward family approached us at the beginning of the pandemic with a design prompt to blend their love of midcentury modern design with their Caribbean roots. With her parents originating from Trinidad & Tobago and his parents from Jamaica, they wanted their home to be an authentic representation of their heritage, with a midcentury modern twist. We found inspiration from a colorful Trinidad & Tobago tourism poster that they already owned and carried the tropical colors throughout the house — rich blues in the main bathroom, deep greens and oranges in the powder bathroom, mustard yellow in the dining room and guest bathroom, and sage green in the kitchen. This project was featured on Dwell in January 2022.

This carefully curated powder room maximizes a narrow space. The clean contemporary lines are elongated by a custom wood vanity and quartz countertop. Black accents from the vessel sink, faucet and fixtures add a touch of sophistication.

This plaster pink cloakroom was previously a dusty broom cupboard. We kept part of the wall unplastered to add interest and recall the history of the room.

Magnolia - Carlsbad, CA - 3,212 SF + 4BD + 3.5 BA Architectural Style: Modern Farmhouse Magnolia is a significant transformation of the owner's childhood home. Features like the steep 12:12 metal roofs softening to 3:12 pitches; soft arch shaped doug fir beams; custom designed double gable brackets; exaggerated beam extensions; a detached arched/ louvered carport marching along the front of the home; an expansive rear deck with beefy brick bases with quad columns, large protruding arched beams; an arched louvered structure centered on an outdoor fireplace; cased out openings and detailed trim work throughout the home; and many other architectural features have created a unique and elegant home along Highland Ave. in Carlsbad, California.

The bathrooms in this Miami, home were in need of a modern style update. Our clients wanted the design to be refined at the same time, we wanted to maintain a rustic, mountainous feel to pay homage to the beautiful surroundings of this mountain home. Our clients wanted a statement-making powder room so we used a gorgeous, copper vessel sink and installed wood shiplap on the walls. The bathrooms for the kids and the guest bathrooms were given a clean, neutral palette contrasted with oil-rubbed bronze hardware. --- Project designed by Miami interior designer Margarita Bravo.
