Desert Prairie / Master Bedroom + Patio

Drewett Works

Located near the base of Scottsdale landmark Pinnacle Peak, the Desert Prairie is surrounded by distant peaks as well as boulder conservation easements. This 30,710 square foot site was unique in terrain and shape and was in close proximity to adjacent properties. These unique challenges initiated a truly unique piece of architecture. Planning of this residence was very complex as it weaved among the boulders. The owners were agnostic regarding style, yet wanted a warm palate with clean lines. The arrival point of the design journey was a desert interpretation of a prairie-styled home. The materials meet the surrounding desert with great harmony. Copper, undulating limestone, and Madre Perla quartzite all blend into a low-slung and highly protected home. Located in Estancia Golf Club, the 5,325 square foot (conditioned) residence has been featured in Luxe Interiors + Design’s September/October 2018 issue. Additionally, the home has received numerous design awards. This home had a generous master suite prior to the renovation; however, it was located close to the rest of the bedrooms and baths on the floor. They desired their own separate oasis with more privacy and asked us to design and add a 2nd story addition over the existing 1st floor family room, that would include a master suite with a laundry/gift wrapping room. We added a 2nd story addition without adding to the existing footprint of the home. The addition is entered through a private hallway with a separate spacious laundry room, complete with custom storage cabinetry, sink area, and countertops for folding or wrapping gifts. The bedroom is brimming with details such as custom built-in storage cabinetry with fine trim mouldings, window seats, and a fireplace with fine trim details. The master bathroom was designed with comfort in mind. A custom double vanity and linen tower with mirrored front, quartz countertops and champagne bronze plumbing and lighting fixtures make this room elegant. Water jet cut Calcatta marble tile and glass tile make this walk-in shower with glass window panels a true work of art. And to complete this addition we added a large walk-in closet with separate his and her areas, including built-in dresser storage, a window seat, and a storage island. The finished renovation is their private spa-like place to escape the busyness of life in style and comfort. These delightful homeowners are already talking phase two of renovations with us and we look forward to a longstanding relationship with them.

A large Master Suite with soft tones boasts huge floor to ceiling windows and doors with custom motorized drapery. Lots of plants and a quite seating area are off this room on a private balcony. The upholstered headboard and matching bed bench are trimmed with a dark hammered nail head and topped with custom luxury bedding. Behind the bed is a wall covered in subtle faux snakeskin paper. The nightstands and matching entertainment center are an elegant mixture of dark and light woods. Atop the nightstands is a pair of metal and crystal lamps. A custom desk was built on one side of the room to serve as the owner’s home office. Colorful artwork near the desk adds a pop of bold color. A dark wood and cream leather armchair and ottoman with a gold sculpted metal floor lamp and a dark wood side table are the perfect place for visiting or reading a book. to the large master suite. This homage to prairie style architecture located at The Rim Golf Club in Payson, Arizona was designed for owner/builder/landscaper Tom Beck. This home appears literally fastened to the site by way of both careful design as well as a lichen-loving organic material palatte. Forged from a weathering steel roof (aka Cor-Ten), hand-formed cedar beams, laser cut steel fasteners, and a rugged stacked stone veneer base, this home is the ideal northern Arizona getaway. Expansive covered terraces offer views of the Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed golf course, the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the US, as well as the majestic Mogollon Rim and Stewart Mountains, making this an ideal place to beat the heat of the Valley of the Sun. A custom made hand hammered silver head board sits proud above the bed in this master bedroom. Two different rough wood dressers are used as nightstands and above them sit these vintage mercury glass lamps (Italy, 1950's). An oversized custom wool and silk blend rug sets a muted backdrop so lavenders and grays can come through the linen fabric used for the window treatments and bedding. Sferra bedding is used as the basic white, and custom made pillows tie the room together. White and silver cowhides cover portions of the large rug. A daybed sits in front of the king size bed, providing another layer of softness in this room.

High ceilings and ample windows offer plenty of light and an amazing view in this neutral master bedroom. Woven blinds and ivory and beige embroidered draperies hang from bronze hardware, adding subtle pattern and texture. Dark walnut stained flooring rests under a large, upholstered bed covered in an ivory vinyl and trimmed with bronze nail heads. The bedding, from Legacy Linens, has simple elegance, while hand embroidered pillows finish off the look. At the end of the bed sits a bench covered in a soft, sage green ultra-suede. Antique brass lamps filled with river rocks sit atop bedside tables, painted black and accented with metallic copper Greek key designs. Interior doors, painted charcoal grey with bronze door hardware, add just the right amount of contrast.

Наоборот, если есть необходимость экономить каждый сантиметр, откажитесь от кровати вовсе: спальный гарнитур можно составить из матраса на ножках и изголовья, закрепленного на стене (это позволит выгадать 10-15 см). Делая ремонт спальни, очень важно продумать место для кровати — близкое расположение к двери или окну могут нарушить ваш сон, однако и это можно исправить, подобрав плотные шторы или экраны для спальни. Кровать в спальне является главной составляющей, так что уделите ее выбору достаточно внимания.

Как выбрать отделку, мебель и декор для спальни?

Выбор цвета спальни — личное дело каждого, однако лучше отдать предпочтение спокойным тонам, которые не будут действовать раздражающе на нервную систему. Яркие стены в спальне повышают настроение по утрам, однако ночью они могут мешать уснуть. Цветным и пестрым может быть все, что легко убрать — например, декоративные подушки. Хороший вариант — делать яркой стену за изголовьем кровати: вы видите ее, входя в комнату, но она не раздражает вас в момент пробуждения. Проверенное решение — белая спальня: разные комплекты яркого постельного белья позволят непринужденно менять настроение буквально каждую неделю.

Как создать дополнительный уют в спальне?

Такая простая вещь, как дублирующий выключатель, позволит вам выключать свет, не вставая с кровати. Даже если вы — владелец маленькой спальни, обязательно запланируйте пару выключателей у входа и рядом с изголовьем кровати. Не помешает диммер (возможность уменьшить яркость света в комнате). Особенно это уместно, если у вас нет отдельной лампы-ночника. Любые мелкие вещицы, которые ассоциируются у вас с уютом, будут уместны. Но не перегружайте ими спальную комнату. Достаточно того, что может поместиться на полке комода или прикроватной тумбочке. Ищите новые идеи и не забывайте использовать для вдохновения при создании дизайна спальни фото.
