Contemporary style focuses on the basics of line, shape and form. While this client's master bath had those elements, it had also lost it's luster making it cold, hard and uninviting. Our goal with this remodel was to modernize the contemporary elements while creating a warm and comfortable space to begin each day. The element of line is displayed in the shower through the use of thin vertical tiles that draw your eye upward toward the custom ombre mosaic. Form is communicated through the soft curves on the faucets, vessel sinks and freestanding tub. Each one has a flow similar to the silhouette of a woman, bringing beauty and comfort. Shape occurs in the geometric inset of the marble floor, which is heated through a sub-floor system. The warmth of this space is not only felt with the feet but also with the heart. Our clients for this remodel of a 100 year old home in San Francisco’s Liberty Hill neighborhood recently moved to San Francisco. The house they purchased was very stately and had great bones, but lacked a true master suite and had recently been remodeled in a slightly generic modern style. We helped them with projects throughout the house. Our biggest project was creating a true master suite out of two bedrooms and an existing bathroom. We created an open concept bathroom with custom gray lacquer wardrobes and shoe storage units with a dramatic slot skylight overhead. Access to the master bedroom is through this room. The clean lines of the bathroom are complimented by a very long wall hung vanity with a CaesarStone counter which flows into the walk-in shower and becomes the curb. A variety of tiles including locally fabricated tile from Heath Ceramics were carefully selected to create a warm and inviting, yet modern, feeling. Oak floors similar to those in the rest of the house were used throughout the master suite for continuity. By using the same tile on the back wall of the bathroom we were able to create a visual unity from the shower through the vanity and the water closet. After living in this newer townhome for years, this family of two decided that a builder grade master bathroom suite is not what they wanted. The couple desired a more contemporary and modern combination of tiles and fixtures. The husband really wanted a steam shower and the wife wished for a state of the art whirlpool/spa fixture. Our team tore down the original bathroom to its bare studs. Taking a few inches from the adjacent closet, allowed our team to convert the old shower stall to a larger steam shower with a built-in bench and niche, added space and a gorgeous glass enclosure. They cleverly mixed the stacked stone and large-scale porcelain tile to emphasize the modern flair for this spa-style bathroom. The tub was moved to the corner to become a curved whirlpool jet tub surrounded in mosaic front and stacked background stone. A separate commode area was created with a frosted glass pocket door. His and her vanities were separated to give each of them a space of their own. Using contemporary floating vanities with marble tops contributed more to the final look. New double glass entry doors open up this master bath suite to the adjacent seating room and give a much more open feel for the new space. Smart use of LED lighting, chandelier, recessed and decorative vanity lights made this master bathroom suite brighter. The couple aptly named this project “Oasis From Heaven".
