This bespoke family kitchen was part of the renovation of a period home in Frome. The ground floor is a half basement and struggled with dark rooms and a layout that did not function well for family life. New windows were added to the adjoining dining room and crisp white finishes and clever lighting have transformed the space. Bespoke cabinets maximised the limited head height and corner space. Designed in a classic shaker style and painted in Hopper by Little Greene with classic burnished brass ironmongery, it is a timeless design.

Amos Goldreich Architecture has completed an asymmetric brick extension that celebrates light and modern life for a young family in North London. The new layout gives the family distinct kitchen, dining and relaxation zones, and views to the large rear garden from numerous angles within the home. The owners wanted to update the property in a way that would maximise the available space and reconnect different areas while leaving them clearly defined. Rather than building the common, open box extension, Amos Goldreich Architecture created distinctly separate yet connected spaces both externally and internally using an asymmetric form united by pale white bricks. Previously the rear plan of the house was divided into a kitchen, dining room and conservatory. The kitchen and dining room were very dark; the kitchen was incredibly narrow and the late 90’s UPVC conservatory was thermally inefficient. Bringing in natural light and creating views into the garden where the clients’ children often spend time playing were both important elements of the brief. Amos Goldreich Architecture designed a large X by X metre box window in the centre of the sitting room that offers views from both the sitting area and dining table, meaning the clients can keep an eye on the children while working or relaxing. Amos Goldreich Architecture enlivened and lightened the home by working with materials that encourage the diffusion of light throughout the spaces. Exposed timber rafters create a clever shelving screen, functioning both as open storage and a permeable room divider to maintain the connection between the sitting area and kitchen. A deep blue kitchen with plywood handle detailing creates balance and contrast against the light tones of the pale timber and white walls. The new extension is clad in white bricks which help to bounce light around the new interiors, emphasise the freshness and newness, and create a clear, distinct separation from the existing part of the late Victorian semi-detached London home. Brick continues to make an impact in the patio area where Amos Goldreich Architecture chose to use Stone Grey brick pavers for their muted tones and durability. A sedum roof spans the entire extension giving a beautiful view from the first floor bedrooms. The sedum roof also acts to encourage biodiversity and collect rainwater. We thought carefully about the space planning to ensure we met the brief for distinct zones, while also keeping a connection to the outdoors and others in the space. “The materials of the project also had to marry with the new plan. Natural Nobilia Kitchen in Horsham, West Sussex A natural kitchen concept was the brief with this recent kitchen design and installation in the Mannings Heath, West Sussex area, and doesn’t it deliver. With the client’s home recently undergoing a significant single-story extension, the challenge for our Horsham showroom kitchen designer George Harvey was to create a design that makes the most of the spacious new kitchen and living area. With the extension creating a beautiful view of the client’s green garden space and the rolling country-side hills beyond, a natural kitchen dynamic, as the client desired was always a theme that would suit this property. During the design stage of this project designer George explored a number of textured kitchen options, including stone as well as a number of natural oak shades from German supplier Nobilia. The final scheme for this project combines the medium oak option with stone like worktops in a fantastic combination of two textured finishes. To meet the client’s brief for this project supplier choice was key. Although situated in a quaint West Sussex village, the contemporary extension that has taken place lends the space more so to a modern style kitchen. With the desired natural aesthetic, furniture from German supplier Nobilia was definitely the most suitable option for this project. Nobilia boast a huge collection of textured kitchens with several wood and stone-based furniture options to choose from. Alongside a great choice of textured ranges, decorative feature units are also plentiful across any kitchen choice – something that the client was keen to include throughout the project. After assessing various textured options, the client opted for units and cabinetry from the Structura range, which is an all-wood collection featuring light, medium, dark and black oak finishes. This design uses the medium oak option from the Structura range: Sierra Oak, to bring a lovely warm-wood texture to the kitchen and living space. To complement and add further texture Grey Slate Nobilia worktops have been incorporated from the premium Laminate worktop option Xtra. Nobilia Xtra worktops offer enhanced resistance to impact and swelling while remaining a cost effective and visually appealing work surface option. When we’re not socialising in the kitchen, we’re using appliances to cook, clean or store. So, the functionality of kitchen appliances is an all-important decision when renovating a kitchen space. Appliances from this kitchen are all supplied by Neff. A German supplier with a key emphasis on simplifying tasks for those who both do and don’t like spending time in the kitchen. The appliances chosen for this project are all of high specification, using a combination of N90, N70 and N50 models with an array of useful innovations. N90 Neff ovens used for this project utilise the iconic Slide & Hide door, but there’s more to these ovens than that. Features like roast assist, pyrolytic cleaning and Home Connect make big tasks simple, with optimum cooking times, easy cleaning options and the ability to control it all via a tablet, mobile phone or home speaker. To boil, steam and fry an 80cm induction hob is included in this kitchen, which features four cooking zones including an expansive flexInduction cooking space. This appliance works in harmony with an integrated extractor that is built-in to cabinetry directly above the hob. Other integrated appliances include full height refrigerator and freezer, both with Nofrost technology as well as an undermounted N50 dishwasher. Like appliances, kitchen accessories play a vital part in the day-to-day use of the kitchen space, they are also a great way to tailor a kitchen space to the way you want to use it. A key differential for this project is dual sinks, which have been designed to fulfil the way the client wants to use their space. The larger inset sink is designated to cleaning, tailored to its purpose with a larger bowl and draining area. The second sink and tap are made to be used while cooking or entertaining, with a Quooker boiling tap featuring for simple access to 100°C boiling water. Both sinks are from German supplier Blanco and utilise their composite sink option in the complementary Rock Grey texture. A great way to create a unique kitchen space is through the use of feature units, and this is something the client was keen to do throughout this project. Throughout the kitchen glazed glass units, exposed units and feature end shelving have all been incorporated to create a distinguishable space. These units have been used to enhance the natural theme, with deep green indoor plants adding to the jungle like aesthetic. The client has even added to sideboard style storage with elegant pink herringbone tiling and a rustic style shelf which is a beautiful kitchen addition. Another great aspect incorporated into this project is the use of lighting. A vast amount of light comes through the well-designed extension, creating a fantastic airy space throughout the kitchen and living area. But in addition to this, designer George has incorporated an abundance of undercabinet spotlighting and strip lighting which will only look better when natural light vanishes. For this project an extensive amount of design work has been undertaken including navigating several design combinations and defining a key theme that would dictate the dynamic of the home. Designer George has also done a fantastic job at incorporating all elements of the design brief through the use of unique feature units and natural texture. The client for this project opted for our dry-fit installation option, but we are well equipped to undertake complete kitchen installations with our fully employed team of tradespeople who can even undertake internal building work. Set within an airy contemporary extension to a lovely Georgian home, the Siatama Kitchen is our most ambitious project to date. The client, a master cook who taught English in Siatama, Japan, wanted a space that spliced together her love of Japanese detailing with a sophisticated Scandinavian approach to wood. At the centre of the deisgn is a large island, made in solid british elm, and topped with a set of lined drawers for utensils, cutlery and chefs knifes. The 4-post legs of the island conform to the 寸 (pronounced ‘sun’), an ancient Japanese measurement equal to 3cm. An undulating chevron detail articulates the lower drawers in the island, and an open-framed end, with wood worktop, provides a space for casual dining and homework. A full height pantry, with sliding doors with diagonally-wired glass, and an integrated american-style fridge freezer, give acres of storage space and allow for clutter to be shut away. A plant shelf above the pantry brings the space to life, making the most of the high ceilings and light in this lovely room.

The structural column could not be removed on this build, so we made it an integral element of the design.

Ultramodern German Kitchen in Ewhurst, Surrey The Brief For this project near Ewhurst, Surrey, our contracts team were tasked with creating a minimalist design to suit the extensive construction taking place at this property. A light and spacious theme was sought by this client, as well as a layout that would flow outdoors to a patio and garden yet make the most of the space available. High-tech appliances were required for function as well as to add to a minimalist design. Design Elements For the project, an all-white theme was decided to help the space feel airy with lots of natural light. Kitchen cabinetry is from our trusty German supplier Nobilia, with the client opting for the matt effect furniture of the Fashion range. In terms of layout, a vast run of full height, then base and wall units are used to incorporate heaps of storage, space for appliances and work surfaces. A large island has been incorporated and adds to the seamless ‘outdoor’ style when bi-fold doors are open in warmer months. The handleless operation of the kitchen adds to the minimalist feel, with stainless steel rails instead used to access drawers and doors. To add ambience to the space LED strip lighting has been fitted within the handrail, as well as integrated lighting in the wall units. Special Inclusions To incorporate high-tech functions Neff cooking appliances, a full-height refrigerator and freezer have been specified in addition to an integrated Neff dishwasher. As part of the cooking appliance arrangement, a single Slide & Hide oven, combination oven and warming drawer have been utilised each adding heaps of appliance ingenuity. To remove the need for a traditional extractor hood, a Bora Pure venting hob has been placed on the vast island area. Project Highlight The work surfaces for this project required extensive attention to detail. Waterfall edges are used on both sides of the island, whilst on the island itself, touch sockets have been fabricated into the quartz using a waterjet to create almost unnoticeable edges. The veins of the Silestone work surfaces have been matched at joins to create a seamless appearance on the waterfall edges and worktop upstands. The finish used for the work surfaces is Bianco Calacatta. The End Result The outcome of this project is a wonderful kitchen and dining area, that delivers all the elements of the brief. The quartz work surfaces are a particular highlight, as well as the layout that is flexible and can function as a seamless inside-outside kitchen in hotter months. This luxury Eggersmann kitchen has been created by Diane Berry and her team of designers and tradesmen. The space started out a 3 rooms and with some clever engineering and inspirational work from Diane a super open plan kitchen diner has been created

This open plan handleless kitchen was designed for an architect, who drew the original plans for the layout as part of a contemporary new-build home project for him and his family. The new house has a very modern design with extensive use of glass throughout. The kitchen itself faces out to the garden with full-height panel doors with black surrounds that slide open entirely to bring the outside in during the summer months. To reflect the natural light, the Intuo kitchen furniture features polished glass door and drawer fronts in Lava and Fango colourways to complement the marble floor tiles that are also light-reflective. We designed the kitchen to specification, with the main feature being a large T-shaped island in the 5.8m x 9m space. The concept behind the island’s shape was to have a full preparation and surface cooking space with the sink run behind it, while the length of the island would be used for dining and socialising, with bar stool seating in recesses on either side. Further soft-close drawers are on either side at the end. The raised Eternal Marfil worktop by Silestone is 80mm thick with square edging. The preparation area is 3.2m wide and features a contrasting 20mm thick Eternal Marfil worktop with Shark’s nose edging to provide easy access to the stainless-steel recessed handle rails to the deep drawers at the front and sides of the island. At the centre is a Novy Panorama PRO 90, with an integrated ventilation tower that rises when extraction is required and then retracts back into the hob’s surface when cooking has ended. For this reason, no overhead extraction was required for this kitchen. Directly beneath the hob are pull-out storage units and there are further deep drawers on either side for pans and plates. To the left of the island are tall handleless glass-fronted cabinets within a 600mm recess, featuring a broom cupboard at one end and a Neff integrated fridge freezer at the other. A bank of Neff side-by-side cooking appliances make the central focus and include two single pyrolytic ovens, a combination microwave and an integrated coffee machine together with accessory drawers. Further storage cupboards are above and below each appliance. The sink run is situated beneath a long rectangular picture window with a black metal surround. Directly above it is a run of glazed cabinets, all by Intuo, with black glass surrounds, with one double-height to the left of the window. The cabinets all store glassware and crockery and they are backlit to make a feature of them at night. Functional pull-out storage cupboards sit beneath the worktop, including pull-out bins, together with a 60cm integrated dishwasher on either side of the sink unit. An undermount single bowl and separate half bowl sink by Axixuno are all cladded in stone to match the pale walls and the tap is by Quooker. The feature wall is painted in Caramel crunch by Dulux. The bar stools by Danetti were chosen by our client to complement this striking colour, and crockery was chosen to match. The pendant lights are taper by Franklite.
