This steel cantilevered staircase was custom made by our fabricators and subsequently clad with oak treads. Very accurate plywood templates are made for the glass and all the fixing holes, designed in CAD and dummy fixed to ensure accuracy. Stainess steel glass adaptors or stand-offs fix the glass through the oak and into the steel box section tread ends. This open tread cantilevered look is modern and airy with a shallow angle and wide treads which are very firm when walking on them. Once locked together with glass they become a monolithic structure. Each tread is accurately templated and welded to the side members which are concealed within the wall structure during construction. A shadow reveal is left around each tread to accommodate any slight movement and it also looks good! An oak handrail will be added later which clips over the top edge of the glass and is held with a rubber gasket. This will add further rigidity to the toughened and heat soaked glass. LED lights on each tread add some functionality and wow factor.
