Phil Gray Landscape Design

Phil just completed a full backyard renovation, including a gorgeous deck and a flagstone patio. Phil provided full design/build services, giving us continual opportunities to collaborate and brainstorm. He is very easy to work with, a creative and talented designer, and an honest business owner. Phil put a lot of heart into making sure the design was harmonious with our craftsman-style house. His crew was also a pleasure to work with; the same guys were here over the full 6-month period (it turns out that Phil has had the same crew for DECADES), and my family was very comfortable having them in our yard. They also were flexible in completing the work, pausing after finishing the deck, before returning to lay the patio, irrigation, and plantings. Our backyard is totally transformed, and now we're planning to have Phil renovate our front yard next year!

We had a backyard with a pool and dirt around it and no real vision as to how to create a peaceful beautiful backyard. Phil came and gave us a plan. He created trellises, a beautiful retaining wall and fountain. The lighting accents he created brings out the perfect night ambiance. He is a master at knowing plants, flowers and trees. He communicated well and his crew worked hard and always did more than they needed to. Phil worked WITH me and I would recommend him to anyone!

Phil Gray Senior designed and oversaw the beautiful renovation of a waterfalls, trellis, flower beds and pathways for my backyard. His crew was diligent and professional. I would highly recommend this company.

Front Lawn removal and redesign into drought tolerant landscape with dry creek that acts as a collection basin for rain and feeds into a fountain basin, decomposed granite seating areas, small patio, and planted mounds. Phil Gray Senior is a brilliant landscape designer. There were some bumps as his crew carried out his ambitious plans (this is why I gave his company four out of five stars) but in the end we have a yard we love and every passer by admires. He worked well with me, took me on trips to select plants, arranged them beautifully and used elements we already had in our landscape.

Phil Gray Landscaping did our backyard. They took everything out, including a lot of roots, paved, planted, and built a fountain. We love it!

Landscaped my back yard 2003 with many different types of palms and very nice hardscaping around my pool. Patio, deck, large planters, and a two-tier pergola make the large patio friendly and useful in the summer. There is also a palapa that adds to the tropical theme. The front yard was planted with dozens of roses, grass, and several trees (redwood, sycamore, flowering crabapple, oak). In 2013 my front yard was changed to be low water usage. The lawn removed and replaced with drought tolerant plants and rock paths, all surrounded by the well established roses. We also have a blood orange tree that yields an abundance of delicious oranges each year. We are very happy to have worked with Phil Gray. When my sprinkler system broke down, I went online and found Mr Gray. He is such a gentleman.. After I told him about my broblem and what I had been wanting a water fall for a long time. He gave me a few suggestions. Then we went from there. He and his crews did a wonderful job. I'm so pleased with my water fall, I introduced him to my dentist. This year I want to take advantage of the rebate on water saving landscape, I hire him again. This project is still in progress. I know it is going to be ideal.

I was enrolled in the HERO program and reached out to Phil Gray after being ignored by many other contractors. My wife and I mentioned the program to him and asked if he would take some time to review and consider being licensed contractor under the program. By our next phone call, he had already looked into the program and signed up to become a certified contractor under the state ran program. He went above and beyond my expectations in my opinion since other contractors wouldn't even give me time and day. The work that needed to be done was to convert my front yard to drought tolerant landscaping and add hardscape to my backyard. He had some great ideas but we wanted to change the plan a bit to fit our budget, he was happy to redraw his blueprint tailored to meet our specifications. He went above and beyond again by finishing the whole project before my daughters birthday as he promised. We were very happy that we were able to celebrate her birthday in our new backyard. He also kept in touch with us after the project was finished to check up on us and if we had any issues he would always have someone here to help within a 24 hours notice. Phil and his team are down to earth, honest people. His prices are very reasonable and customer service is top notch, him and his crew exemplifies how a landscaping business (or any business) should be ran. Later on in the year, I nominated him for the HERO's Above & Beyond award, my nomination was chosen and Phil and his crew won!

Phil Gray did a complete redesign and relandscaping of our front and back yards. As we wanted to move to a drought tolerant landscape, Phil created a design and plan to achieve this. Phil and his professional crew removed all of our lawn and most shrubs and created a large back patio with gorgeous pavers and a small front courtyard with pavers and blocks and then filled in with drought tolerant and native plants. We are thrilled with the result.
