The chic master bathroom is spa-like and luxurious. The tan travertine floors perfectly complement the deep brown vanity, which is topped with white fantasy quartz. The shower has Grohe showerheads, an Emperador marble floor, a mosaic marble accent feature, travertine walls, and quartz bench. The Runtal towel warmer adds the final touch to this oasis. This light and airy home in Chadds Ford, PA, was a custom home renovation for long-time clients that included the installation of red oak hardwood floors, the master bedroom, master bathroom, two powder rooms, living room, dining room, study, foyer and staircase. remodel included the removal of an existing deck, replacing it with a beautiful flagstone patio. Each of these spaces feature custom, architectural millwork and custom built-in cabinetry or shelving. A special showcase piece is the continuous, millwork throughout the 3-story staircase. Two large his and hers vanities occupy one wall, while the opposite is a dual purpose vanity and linen cabinet. The elegant freestanding soaker tub sits just below the oversized picture window.

This project was completed for clients who wanted a comfortable, accessible 1ST floor bathroom for their grown daughter to use during visits to their home as well as a nicely-appointed space for any guest. Their daughter has some accessibility challenges so the bathroom was also designed with that in mind. The original space worked fairly well in some ways, but we were able to tweak a few features to make the space even easier to maneuver through. We started by making the entry to the shower flush so that there is no curb to step over. In addition, although there was an existing oversized seat in the shower, it was way too deep and not comfortable to sit on and just wasted space. We made the shower a little smaller and then provided a fold down teak seat that is slip resistant, warm and comfortable to sit on and can flip down only when needed. Thus we were able to create some additional storage by way of open shelving to the left of the shower area. The open shelving matches the wood vanity and allows a spot for the homeowners to display heirlooms as well as practical storage for things like towels and other bath necessities. We carefully measured all the existing heights and locations of countertops, toilet seat, and grab bars to make sure that we did not undo the things that were already working well. We added some additional hidden grab bars or “grabcessories” at the toilet paper holder and shower shelf for an extra layer of assurance. Large format, slip-resistant floor tile was added eliminating as many grout lines as possible making the surface less prone to tripping. We used a wood look tile as an accent on the walls, and open storage in the vanity allowing for easy access for clean towels. Bronze fixtures and frameless glass shower doors add an elegant yet homey feel that was important for the homeowner. A pivot mirror allows adjustability for different users. The owner of this urban residence, which exhibits many natural materials, i.e., exposed brick and stucco interior walls, originally signed a contract to update two of his bathrooms. But, after the design and material phase began in earnest, he opted to removed the second bathroom from the project and focus entirely on the Master Bath. And, what a marvelous outcome! With the new design, two fullheight walls were removed (one completely and the second lowered to kneewall height) allowing the eye to sweep the entire space as one enters. The views, no longer hindered by walls, have been completely enhanced by the materials chosen. The limestone counter and tub deck are mated with the Riftcut Oak, Espresso stained, custom cabinets and panels. Cabinetry, within the extended design, that appears to float in space, is highlighted by the undercabinet LED lighting, creating glowing warmth that spills across the buttercolored floor. Stacked stone wall and splash tiles are balanced perfectly with the honed travertine floor tiles; floor tiles installed with a linear stagger, again, pulling the viewer into the restful space. The lighting, introduced, appropriately, in several layers, includes ambient, task (sconces installed through the mirroring), and “sparkle” (undercabinet LED and mirrorframe LED). The final detail that marries this beautifully remodeled bathroom was the removal of the entry slab hinged door and in the installation of the new custom five glass panel pocket door. Well, how about a tropical themed bath that works year round? The goal of this bath was just that, to bring some fun, whimsy and tropical vibes! We started out by making some updates to the built in bookcase leading into the bath. It got an easy update by removing all the stained trim and creating a simple arched opening with a few floating shelves for a much cleaner and up-to-date look. We love the simplicity of this arch in the space. Now, into the bathroom design. Our client fell in love with this beautiful handmade tile featuring tropical birds and flowers and featuring bright, vibrant colors. We played off the tile to come up with the pallet for the rest of the space. The cabinetry and trim is a custom teal-blue paint that perfectly picks up on the blue in the tile. The gold hardware, lighting and mirror also coordinate with the colors in the tile. Because the house is a 1930’s tudor, we played homage to that by using a simple black and white hex pattern on the floor and retro style hardware that keep the whole space feeling vintage appropriate. We chose a wall mount unpolished brass hardware faucet which almost gives the feel of a tropical fountain. It just works. The arched mirror continues the arch theme from the bookcase. For the shower, we chose a coordinating antique white tile with the same tropical tile featured in a shampoo niche where we carefully worked to get a little bird almost standing on the niche itself. We carried the gold fixtures into the shower, and instead of a shower door, the shower features a simple hinged glass panel that is easy to clean and allows for easy access to the shower controls. Simple clean design...in this master bathroom renovation things were kept in the same place but in a very different interpretation. The shower is where the exiting one was, but the walls surrounding it were taken out, a curbless floor was installed with a sleek tile-over linear drain that really goes away. A free-standing bathtub is in the same location that the original drop in whirlpool tub lived prior to the renovation. The result is a clean, contemporary design with some interesting "bling" effects like the bubble chandelier and the mirror rounds mosaic tile located in the back of the niche.

The dual vanity in the master bathroom was designed with white Dura Supreme cabinetry, accented with polished chrome hardware, and topped with a smoked pearl quartz countertop. Modern accents include the two metal framed mirrors, and brushed nickel sconces by Capital Lighting. This bathroom, already decently sized, is made to look even bigger with the uniform, reflective tiling of the wall-to-wall 4″ x 12″ tile in a Pearl finish. It runs behind the vanity and the entire length of the wall into the shower, where it transitions into the same 4” x 12” tile but in an Aqua finish.
