Tauranga Inner City Living

Our client on this project wanted to make this historic commercial building in downtown Tauranga her home. The vision was to build a funky New York loft-style apartment on the second level while retaining the ground floor for retail lease opportunities. There were a few challenges in changing the purpose of the second level from commercial to a residential property. This meant the local council required an assessment of fire codes, access codes and earthquake strengthening. While there were hoops to jump through these issues were dealt with as par for course and approval was granted. The apartment consists of a funky open-plan kitchen/dining/living space complete with a suspended street front balcony. With a bank of skylights and plenty of glazing facing northeast, this area is bathed in sunlight. Moving back through the apartment is a second lounge, two stylish bedrooms, an ensuite and bathroom. Cleaver use of space was key for including storage and laundry services. There are so many features to this home that we love - testament to our cleaver and talented client. It was a pleasure working together on this project and we love the fact this property will be a home for many years to come.
