We had the opportunity to come alongside this homeowner and demo an old cottage and rebuild this new year-round home for them. We worked hard to keep an authentic feel to the lake and fit the home nicely to the space. ​ We focused on a small footprint and, through specific design choices, achieved a layout the homeowner loved. A major goal was to have the kitchen, dining, and living all walk out at the lake level. We also managed to sneak a master suite into this level (check out that ceiling!).

A 'slow-designed' bathroom that places importance on using sustainable materials while supporting the community at large. It is our belief that beautiful bathrooms don't have to cost our earth. Our goal with this project was to use materials that were kinder to our planet while still offering a design impact through aesthetics. We scouted for tile suppliers who are conscious of their environmental impact and found a Canadian maker of the terrazzo tile. It is a mix of marble, granite and natural stone aggregate hand cast in a cement base. We then paired that with a ceramic tile, one of the most eco-friendly options and partnered with local tradespeople to craft this highly functional and statement-making bathroom.

Un projet tout en finesse. Zellige écaille couleur émeraude dans la douche. une robinetterie dorée brossée. Une vasque sur mesure en Marbre Fior di Bosco. La robinetterie murale a été posée sur un miroir lui aussi sur mesure. L'association des artisans : marbrier, menuisier, carreleur, plombier, miroitier ont permis ce résultat tout en finesse.

The modest, single-floor house is designed to afford spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Set in the idyllic Virginia countryside, distinct “pavilions” serve different functions: the living room is the center of the home; bedroom suites surround an entry courtyard; a studio/guest suite sits atop the garage; a screen house rests quietly adjacent to a 60-foot lap pool. The abstracted Virginia farmhouse aesthetic roots the building in its local context while offering a quiet backdrop for the family’s daily life and for their extensive folk art collection. Constructed of concrete-filled styrofoam insulation blocks faced with traditional stucco, and heated by radiant concrete floors, the house is energy efficient and extremely solid in its construction. The bathroom now has an open and airy feel. Our client didn't want a glass enclosure, so a simple textured curtain and Turkish towels add dimension while ALSO softening the look. The new bathtub is deep and perfect for a therapeutic soak. The shower niche is finished with glass shelves to maintain an uncluttered look while offering a great deal of storage - no more rusty shower caddies in this space. Meanwhile, the polished nickel finishes and mirrored medicine cabinet reflect light to create a brighter space, which is key in a bathroom without a natural light source.
