Our challenge was to take a builder grade kitchen and infuse it with elements that combined Traditional cabinetry with Rustic overtones. Because our clients enjoy entertaining, the first step was to enlarge the kitchen. We took down the wall that separated the living room from the kitchen. This simple change enabled us to build an oversize island which serves as both a gathering place for guests and a work space for our client and her daughter, who is an aspiring chef. The island is made from reclaimed heart of pine taken out of a factory in Chicago. The semi-gloss, black lacquer cabinets were distressed to add to the rustic ambience the homeowner desired. We wrapped the micro-lam beam used to support the upper level of the house with the same reclaimed wood used for the island. Using a shot gun, we distressed the beam and hand worked the dovetail joints and walnut pegs creating a barn like post and beam look. The pantry has a charming hand made heart of pine screen door. Chicken wire was used for the screen, adding yet another rustic element to this thoroughly custom kitchen. Starting in the kitchen, we added a wall of mounted espresso stained cherry cabinets with crown molding and white tile backsplash. Gorgeous granite counter tops, a large island with possible seating options and matching double counter tops against espresso stained cherry siding, and built-in stainless-steel appliances; including a fridge, oven, stove-top and hood, are some of the features that this kitchen boasts. To ensure there is enough lighting, recessed lights were installed along with a couple hanging lantern lights above the island. The look is finished with a beautiful dark hardwood flooring.

This smart, extended project includes a large open plan kitchen with walk-in wine room plus utility and boot rooms. The large cabinets designed in the Inframe Cockbead Shaker style (in the kitchen) are the real feature of this project. Hand built and painted in Off Black, the detailed beading is classic and traditional yet with the beautiful Armac Martin handles and colour choice, the overall look is timeless and contemporary in equal measure. Complementing the entire look are the Perrin & Rowe taps in English Bronze and the Range Cooker in Matt Graphite with Bronze Trim. Behind the handsome cabinets doors are all manner of well-designed shelving and drawers including a breakfast dresser and drinks cabinet – both with integrated strip lighting and Quartz worktops. However, the wow factor goes to the walk-in wine room. A space dedicated to the storage and easy selection of wine bottles thanks to the bespoke slanted wine racks and the Caple Sense Dual Zone Wine Coolers. The cabinet style, here, is a Lay-On Shaker style and the Off Black contrasts nicely with the Caesarstone worktop in Vanilla Noir. An elegant addition to the kitchen and a must for all wine connoisseurs! Connected, yet separated from the kitchen is the well thought out utility room with a tall broom cupboard in a Lay-On Shaker style, ample folding space and large, roomy Butler sink. Appliances are contained within the tall cupboards which are hand painted in off White. Details like the Perrin & Rowe Mayan Deck Mounted Taps in English Bronze and Caesarstone worktop elevate this small room from the practical to the beautiful. Finally, the boot room in the same Lay-On Shaker style as the utility room, has been designed to accommodate coats and shoes for the whole family. Again, the choice of handles - this time Satin Antiqued Satin Lacquered from Armac Martin’s Gaumont Range provide the stylish finishing touches.

An 1800’s carriage house sets the stage for this classic kitchen remodel. The homeowners wanted to be true to the architecture of their home while incorporating top quality, cutting edge appliances and modern day conveniences. They are discerning cooks who entertain often. The original kitchen, done in the 1990’s, had built-out walls covering the original stone of the house. Once exposed and repointed, the stone served as an amazing backsplash in the space, and we were able to gain almost 12” in the width of the room! The fabulous matte black BlueStar range is topped off with a unique antique fireback and is complimented by hand-pegged, hand-planed custom cabinetry that are scribed to the stone walls with precision. The distressed soapstone counters bring warmth to the space that makes you want to cozy up and stay a while. Since the kitchen does not allow for an island, the unused dining room was turned into a combined bar area and butler’s pantry. This small room packs a lot in with antique heart pine countertops, beadboard backsplash, and cabinetry backs, which provide a warm, casual feel. An additional refrigerator and dishwasher, as well as an icemaker, all hidden behind cabinetry panels, provide everything they need, and more, for entertaining family and friends.
