The client requested a kitchen that would not only provide a great space to cook and enjoy family meals but one that would fit in with her unique design sense. An avid collector of contemporary art, she wanted something unexpected in her 100-year-old home in both color and finishes but still providing a great layout with improved lighting, storage, and superior cooking abilities. The existing kitchen was in a closed off space trapped between the family room and the living. If you were in the kitchen, you were isolated from the rest of the house. Making the kitchen an integrated part of the home was a paramount request. Step one, remove the wall separating the kitchen from the other rooms in the home which allowed the new kitchen to become an integrated space instead of an isolation room for the cook. Next, we relocated the pantry access which was in the family room to the kitchen integrating a poorly used recess which had become a catch all area which did not provide any usable space for storage or working area. To add valuable function in the kitchen we began by capturing unused "cubbies", adding a walk-in pantry from the kitchen, increasing the storage lost to un-needed drop ceilings and bring light and design to the space with a new large awning window, improved lighting, and combining interesting finishes and colors to reflect the artistic attitude of the client. A bathroom located above the kitchen had been leaking into the plaster ceiling for several years. That along with knob and tube wiring, rotted beams and a brick wall from the back of the fireplace in the adjacent living room all needed to be brought to code. The walls, ceiling and floors in this 100+ year old home were completely out of level and the room’s foot print could not be increased. The choice of a Sub-Zero wolf product is a standard in my kitchen designs. The quality of the product, its manufacturing and commitment to food preservation is the reason I specify Sub Zero Wolf. For the cook top, the integrated line of the contemporary cooktop and the signature red knobs against the navy blue of the cabinets added to the design vibe of the kitchen. The cooking performance and the large continuous grate on the cooktop makes it an obvious choice for a cook looking for a great cook top with professional results in a more streamlined profile. We selected a Sharp microwave drawer for the island, an XO wine refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher and Kitchen Aid double convection wall ovens to round out the appliance package. A recess created by the fireplace was outfitted with a cabinet which now holds small appliances within easy reach of my very petite client. Natural maple accents were used inside all the wall cabinets and repeated on the front of the hood and for the sliding door appliance cabinet and the floating shelves. This allows a brighter interior for the painted cabinets instead of the traditional same interior as exterior finish choice. The was an amazing transformation from the old to the new. The final touches are the honey bronze hardware from Top Knobs, Mitzi pendants from Hudson Valley Lighting group, a fabulous faucet from Brizo. To eliminate the old freestanding bottled water cooler, we specified a matching water filter faucet.

This mid-century ranch-style home in Pasadena, CA underwent a complete interior remodel and renovation. The kitchen walls separating it from the dining and living rooms were removed creating a sophisticated open-plan entertainment space.

Vintage kitchen remodel. Our inspiration for the Spanish bungalow was California Coastal. We kept the beautiful terracotta floors, repurposed the cabinetry, added new countertops and backsplash. The client wanted a dishwasher so we extended the countertop to make room for the dishwasher & added additional cabinetry for more storage.

This contemporary kitchen has it all; plenty of space, pot lights throughout, a built-in speaker system, an hvac system, a stainless-steel skirt sink, an intercom system, security screen, a large island with an overhanging countertop, shaker style cabinets, pendant lights, quartz cabinets, glass backsplash and wolf appliances throughout.

What a difference it made to take that wall down! We had to put a large beam in the ceiling and support it in the sides walls with metal columns all the way down to the basement to make this structurally sound.

This modern kitchen design in Hingham is sure to be the bright spot in the center of this home. Mouser Cabinetry sets the tone for this design with white beaded inset perimeter cabinets, which is contrasted by a dark wood finish kitchen island with a built in microwave. Both cabinets are Centra Square Inset Reno door style, complemented by Emtek satin nickel Alexander Pulls and Norwich Knobs. A white with gray veining countertop from Boston Bluestone is an ideal counterpart to the cabinetry along with a Highland Park Dove Grey 3 x 6 glass tile backsplash. This dark, dreary kitchen was large, but not being used well. The family of 7 had outgrown the limited storage and experienced traffic bottlenecks when in the kitchen together. A bright, cheerful and more functional kitchen was desired, as well as a new pantry space. We gutted the kitchen and closed off the landing through the door to the garage to create a new pantry. A frosted glass pocket door eliminates door swing issues. In the pantry, a small access door opens to the garage so groceries can be loaded easily. Grey wood-look tile was laid everywhere. We replaced the small window and added a 6’x4’ window, instantly adding tons of natural light. A modern motorized sheer roller shade helps control early morning glare. Three free-floating shelves are to the right of the window for favorite décor and collectables. White, ceiling-height cabinets surround the room. The full-overlay doors keep the look seamless. Double dishwashers, double ovens and a double refrigerator are essentials for this busy, large family. An induction cooktop was chosen for energy efficiency, child safety, and reliability in cooking. An appliance garage and a mixer lift house the much-used small appliances. An ice maker and beverage center were added to the side wall cabinet bank. The microwave and TV are hidden but have easy access. The inspiration for the room was an exclusive glass mosaic tile. The large island is a glossy classic blue. White quartz countertops feature small flecks of silver. Plus, the stainless metal accent was even added to the toe kick! Upper cabinet, under-cabinet and pendant ambient lighting, all on dimmers, was added and every light (even ceiling lights) is LED for energy efficiency. White-on-white modern counter stools are easy to clean. Plus, throughout the room, strategically placed USB outlets give tidy charging options.

This masterfully designed kitchen is fit for entertaining every type of gathering from dinner parties to cocktail receptions. Plenty of natural light abound in the open-concept floor plan, seamlessly connecting the family room, morning room and kitchen. Tucked away behind the traditional kitchen, lies a professional catering kitchen and butler’s pantry fully loaded with a secondary set of stainless-steel appliances, wine refrigerator, separate ice maker, broom closet and a custom rolling ladder to access the abundance of storage. Shaker style cabinetry, swinging cafe doors to the caterer’s kitchen and intricate detail on the wooden vent hood set a tone for being on trend without being trendy. A chef’s dream, this kitchen has all the bells and whistles—like an oversized island, expansive side-by-side freezer and refrigerator, dual dishwashers to beverage center, slide out dog bowls, pop out steps to access upper cabinets, filtered water station, LED lighting and hidden outlets in the upper cabinets. This home has left nothing to be desired.
