An understated row of Ornamental Pear trees sit in from of a freshly Dulux-painted boundary fence in Hawthorn, Melbourne. Galvanised steel trellis on timber posts provides height and drama to the garden space, allowing Star Jasmine to climb up the vertical garden and screen out the neighbours (adding privacy). A freshly positioned boulder retaining wall gives the space an organic feel. Invigorating grasses add a lush element to the back yard, colour matching the artificial grass. My garden was Sapna Bagh which translates to “garden of dreams”. It is an eclectic garden that attempts to represent the joy of coming home & immersing yourself in your carefully curated space.⁠ Brimming in the moods, colours & textures created by your very own collection of plants, heavily influenced by your cultural origins, travels & interests. ⁠ ⁠It’s a garden style that’s bold, uniquely you, fun & exciting to experience every time you’re in the garden, every season!⁠ The design uses plants in different ways to create a living artwork, i.e. akin to a painting or sculpture in a gallery. It evokes the senses & creates an emotional response to the curation.⁠ There is a lot of detail & thought that goes into planning a garden and one which uses layers of hidden elements of symbolism which I’m finding underrepresented in design practice in residential spaces (given the heavy focus on practicality and aesthetics). For example, this garden incorporates a “living” horse sculpture with several meanings. At one level, the horse represents the spirit of joy, adventure and wonderment, but it also links to a personal connection with this majestic creature as my spirit animal. ⁠It also aligns with my /(cultural) zodiac sign. The horse, in many cultures, embodies a sense of independence &adventure, which extends to this garden via the plant selection representing the bountiful forms, textures and beauty existing in nature to explore and experience! ⁠ ⁠⁠The colours red, yellow & blue nod to some of my cultural roots whilst adding to the cheer, elevating my thoughts and life outlook! I’m celebrating that I’m a plant collector for an excellent reason!⁠

A bold front garden

Yorkshire Gardens

The front garden is the first thing visitors see, and even a small garden can make a lasting first impression. When landscaping this garden we designed a fairly simple layout, but we used sweeping lines and circular flower beds to achieve a more interesting space. As there is no lawn this garden is fairly low maintenance and remains looking neat all year round. The curving flower beds step down to the main focal point, a collection of circular flower beds surrounded by stone blocks. The flower beds are filled with a selection of colourful flowers in soft pinks and vivid reds. Beautiful dry stone walls create the retaining walls of the flower beds and add a hint of rustic charm, while the simplicity of the space helps it to look contemporary. A lattice fence surrounds the perimeter and adds privacy without obstructing light into the garden. Along with the stunning flower beds there is a sizable drive along allowing this to be a practical yet stylish garden. This bold front garden certainly adds kerb appeal to this property.

Открытый бассейн может стать яркой составляющей вашей общей идеи для сада, однако подойдите к вопросу с умом и оцените, есть ли у вас достаточно пространства, и готов ли к этому ваш бюджет. Подумайте, сколько солнечных дней в году в вашей климатической зоне и нужен ли вам открытый бассейн вообще. Вариантом, который сэкономит вам и деньги, и место, может стать надувной или каркасный бассейн — их относительно легко монтировать и демонтировать, к тому же, за ними легко ухаживать. Не бойтесь экспериментировать.
