Limit the footprint: Building smaller houses reduces the impact on the existing ecosystem by allowing a larger amount of natural vegetation to remain in tact. A smaller, efficiently designed, house also uses less energy and leaves a smaller carbon footprint. It uses less material, saving resources, which is beneficial to the environment as a whole.
