Limitless Building

Settled within a graffiti-covered laneway in the trendy heart of Mt Lawley you will find this four-bedroom, two-bathroom home. The owners; a young professional couple wanted to build a raw, dark industrial oasis that made use of every inch of the small lot. Amenities aplenty, they wanted their home to complement the urban inner-city lifestyle of the area. One of the biggest challenges for Limitless on this project was the small lot size & limited access. Loading materials on-site via a narrow laneway required careful coordination and a well thought out strategy. Paramount in bringing to life the client’s vision was the mixture of materials throughout the home. For the second story elevation, black Weathertex Cladding juxtaposed against the white Sto render creates a bold contrast. Upon entry, the room opens up into the main living and entertaining areas of the home. The kitchen crowns the family & dining spaces. The mix of dark black Woodmatt and bespoke custom cabinetry draws your attention. Granite benchtops and splashbacks soften these bold tones. Storage is abundant. Polished concrete flooring throughout the ground floor blends these zones together in line with the modern industrial aesthetic. A wine cellar under the staircase is visible from the main entertaining areas. Reclaimed red brickwork can be seen through the frameless glass pivot door for all to appreciate — attention to the smallest of details in the custom mesh wine rack and stained circular oak door handle. Nestled along the north side and taking full advantage of the northern sun, the living & dining open out onto a layered alfresco area and pool. Bordering the outdoor space is a commissioned mural by Australian illustrator Matthew Yong, injecting a refined playfulness. It’s the perfect ode to the street art culture the laneways of Mt Lawley are so famous for. Engineered timber flooring flows up the staircase and throughout the rooms of the first floor, softening the private living areas. Four bedrooms encircle a shared sitting space creating a contained and private zone for only the family to unwind. The Master bedroom looks out over the graffiti-covered laneways bringing the vibrancy of the outside in. Black stained Cedarwest Squareline cladding used to create a feature bedhead complements the black timber features throughout the rest of the home. Natural light pours into every bedroom upstairs, designed to reflect a calamity as one appreciates the hustle of inner city living outside its walls. Smart wiring links each living space back to a network hub, ensuring the home is future proof and technology ready. An intercom system with gate automation at both the street and the lane provide security and the ability to offer guests access from the comfort of their living area. Every aspect of this sophisticated home was carefully considered and executed. Its final form; a modern, inner-city industrial sanctuary with its roots firmly grounded amongst the vibrant urban culture of its surrounds.

Spacious Kitchen for Entertaining

Entertaining and bringing people together is what this family is all about. Birthdays involve amazing cakes like you see on those TV shows, and groups of 30 people or more. Their ideal kitchen needed to accommodate that level of baking and hosting, but also support the daily rhythms of life. Our collaborative design was guided by Vastu Shastra, an ancient architectural tradition that predates feng shui. Based on Vedic traditions that harmonize human behavior with natural forces in the world, Vastu Shanstra basically suggests how to inhabit a place in the best way possible. The objectives were: -Relocate the entire kitchen so the home’s heat source (oven) is in the southeast -Incorporate symmetry into the overall design -Create a large space for entertaining – open and airy with lots of light -Simultaneously separate but join cooking and gathering spaces, allowing the cook to have a cook-specific zone that is still a part of any gathering -Individual storage for small appliances – making them easier to use -Simplicity – the space should be easy to use and maintain Design challenges we solved for: -Incorporate three load bearing points of the house -Provide structural support that was not obvious -Reconfigure kitchen utilities to another part of the home -Maximize storage space Design solutions and mindful innovations became an exciting motivation that drove the project: -Double-horseshoe design features two symmetrical islands that seat 18 people comfortably -Downdraft ventilation behind rangetop allows unobstructed views -Overhead beams for structural support -Equip nearby dining room with locking bar and wine cabinet -Roll-out appliance shelves on back of cooking island are powered for easy use -Symmetrical fridge and freezer columns separated by oven -Cabinets along back of the cooking area for everyday items -Tall pantry cabinet has four drawers for paperwork -Spacious walk-in storage pantry has a counter with power outlets -Coffee station has a trash can directly below for easy clean up -Two sinks and dishwashers for easy cleanup “A lot of relationships are built over food,” the homeowner told us. “This [kitchen] keeps our family close because we all love food. My kids sit in the kitchen all evening long every day – and I’m right there cooking. That’s life –to be together.” We also collaborated with the homeowners to remodel their primary bathroom, primary bedroom closet and an additional bathroom.

The kitchen finds its greatest expression in the island. Its spaciousness makes it appear majestic, and the overhanging top emphasises its architectural strength. The thick Dekton® top accommodates the integrated sink and Pitt Fire burners, and ends with the breakfast bar. The large tubular hood in painted steel corresponds exactly to the burners and emphasises the vertical lines of the ceiling.

This project completely remodelled a semi-detached house in a conservation area of Wandsworth Common, South London. Utilising the slope of the site, we introduced a semi basement to the rear containing a bedroom, living space and kitchenette – connected through a new staircase and hallway. Above this is a large single storey extension containing a contemporary kitchen, utility, dining and living space as well as a raised terrace. A material choice of rendered walls, timber slats and pearl-grey aluminium doors both compliment the existing house, as well as making a bold new statement at the rear. Because of the South-facing aspect, and bright natural light, we were able to introduce a bold colour scheme of stiffkey blue kitchen units, copper plated extract, oak timber floors and dark panelled entrance hall. The added space has transformed the house, almost doubling the key living areas and providing a modern flexible home that can be adapated for future use.

As part of a complete remodel on this McKinney Avenue high rise condo, Edict designed a complete kitchen remodel. The cabinetry is 100% custom designed, no off the shelf or RTA cabinetry here. Made from rift cut white oak, the lighter cabinets have a clear coat natural finish and the darker cabinets are stained in an ebony finish giving a great sense of contrast and interest to this kitchen. The kitchen is packed with high end appliances including a Miele built in coffee machine, a wine fridge, Miele integrated hood and Miele gas cooktop as well as a deep single stainless steel sink, an integrated trash compactor and new integrated SubZero refrigerator. The kitchen's lighting has cable lighting for the main source of light which pulls in the industrial feel of the loft's exposed beams and ductwork, a new custom lightbox suspended above the new island with integrated LED cans and 3 pendants to light it. Also, above the ceiling panel, above the cabinets, under the cabinets and the toe kicks all have integrated LED lighting - all lighting is dimmable giving the most diverse options for a lighting solution. All of the cabinetry doors and drawers have Blum hardware and most are without handles for the most seamless look possible. Instead, one presses the drawers and cabinets and they pop open and close with soft close drawers. Как сделать дизайн маленькой кухни функциональным?

Чтобы сделать кухню вместительнее, используйте каждый сантиметр — ведь для хранения посуды, столовых приборов, контейнеров и прочих мелочей вам понадобятся вместительные шкафы и полки. Если горизонтальное пространство ограничено, планируйте место для хранения по вертикали: закрепите на свободной от кухонного гарнитура стене дополнительные навесные полки, а на кухонный фартук можно разместить рейлинг с крючками и маленькие полочки под специи. При наличии дополнительного пространства, интерьер кухни можно дополнить барной стойкой. Важно понять, для каких целей семья использует кухню, и сделать так, чтобы это место отвечало всем нуждам.

Как грамотно подобрать мебель для кухни?
