Sorry for the very late reply, but I thought I would respond just in case it could be of use. I can't remember exactly, but I think there is kerf on the top rail that the mesh slides into. On the sides I think they drilled for the horizontal members of the mesh and on the bottom rail, I think it sandwiched between two members so rainwater does not sit on top of the wood.
