My plumber just installed a new Hansgrohe shower valve. The valve seems great, moves like silk.
The escutcheon shows a wide strip of black rubber gasket between the center escutcheon hole and the handle. The plumber says this is right, but I think it looks terrible, and will only get worse as the rubber ages.

Is there any way to correct this?
