East facing patio garden- help with planting please?

This is our small east facing patio garden. The planting beds are about 1m/3ft wide approx. We would really appreciate any help with shrubs, plants that will survive being in this orientation. The garden is quite sheltered and not shaded by the other houses, it gets sun until about 4pm mid summer. We are in Ireland so wettish climate with temperature variations of -2 to 25c annually.

Ideally we'd like a bit more privacy from the neighbours without growing anything offensively tall and some nice coloured smaller plants. It's our first foray into any type of gardening! Thanks in advance
(ps the tree in the corner is a palm tree which is healthy).

For more privacy, you could do something like this. It won't take up space and you can plant climbing roses and clematis to cover it in flowers.

Try the RHS website - they have a great tool for finding plants for different conditions. Personally, I love ferns so would go with a selection of those ;)

Yes the RHS website is great for finding the right plants for places. Soil conditions as well as orientation and shelter.
