Ombre Cake Colors for Your Home
Delicious color gradations work as well in interiors as they do on today's most stylish confections
As the ombre color trend caught on, cakes were the first things that caught my eye. In the past year, the trend has spread like wildfire: ombre dresses, ombre hair, and ombre in interior design. These pieces and rooms play with light and dark in a new way, one that reflects nature — especially the sky — and invites you in to stay awhile.
Trans Ocean Imports Ombre Horizon Purple Hand Tufted Purple Area Rug - 9663/49 |
Plum and gray meet ombre in a dramatic way in this rug. It definitely pulls the eye to its center and would look as great on a wall as it would on the floor.
Tyrian Ombre Vase - Anthropologie.com
I love how this ombre vase with its earthy base tone looks like the earth the flowers came from. The effect was created by dipping the vase in a purple glaze.
The ombre tile in this bathroom gives the room such a soothing feel, as if you were floating just beneath the surface of the ocean.
Flamenco Shower Curtain
The blues and greens in this ombre shower curtain capture the feeling of rain falling on you and pooling at your feet perfectly. It also extends any color palette you might consider for the space.
The kitchen tiling uses light to create an ombre effect and create a spectrum of color rather than a single solid one. It certainly lights up the backsplash, which is so often overlooked in a kitchen.
Emerald Ombre Covered Dish
The ombre design aesthetic is a classic on cookware, adding some color and design to whatever delicious food might be inside.
Aquamarine Ombre
This painting is a favorite. Depending on how you hang it, it could easily remind you of two different things: the depths of the sea, or the move from brightness on earth to the darkness in space. I'd go for the latter feel.
Ombre works equally well between shades of a similar color as it does between a single color and white. This confection in its peaches and yellows (also from Maggie Austin Cakes) warms the entire room.

The effect can be achieved with light and paint, creating a smooth transition from one room to the next, even if they're different colors. Here, a yellow-to-off-white gradation gives the stairway some extra emphasis and draws you on to explore the home.
Wavering Ombre Curtain - Anthropologie.com
This ombre window curtain is reminiscent of the morning sunrise or a gorgeous evening sunset. The darker color on the bottom adds some weight to the room while still letting the light pour in through the lighter portion.
