MDesign Architects has been an amazing Architecture / Design Firm that we have had the pleasure of working with over the years. We love working with their highly trained staff and partners to create amazing Modern homes that are designed with an Automated Lifestyle in mind, giving owners a one of a kind living experience. I rarely provide reviews, but I am going to take the time to recommend M. Design to anyone looking for a great partner for your project. I say partner, because that is what Malika has been for us. Starting from inspiring conceptual designs to get us going, to supporting us during our back-and-forth discussions with the town on various issues, to continually working with our evolving needs and budget limitations, Malika has always been there to advise and guide us. We loved the designs and ideas she came up with for our house and the professional manner in which she did so, always keeping in mind our needs and constraints. In addition to M. Design's services, the team of professionals and contractors that they work have also been great, whether it was for radiant heating, for landscape design, or for project management. I could go on, but to summarize, you can't go wrong with M.Design, whatever the size and scope of your project and whatever size and scope of their services you ask for. If I ever have the chance for another project, I would definitely work with M. Design as a full service architectural firm, and sleep well knowing that the project is in good hands.

Pazmany Bros. Landscaping

Our company specializes in landscape installations and has worked with M Designs Architects on several projects over the last couple years. Malika and Chip are very involved with the design and construction process. They both are really easy to communicate and work with. M Designs Architects has certainly developed a reputation in our community for incredible design concepts, attention to detail and quality control of the entire process. We have worked on several different homes, and many of them had different styles and themes. The projects are fast paced, the clients sometimes very involved, and the overall outcome is amazing. Our company likes being involved with Architects and Home Owners who care about the details and care for more than a cookie cutter project. One of the last projects we worked with them on went up for sale and had over 19,000 clicks on the MLS website in the first 2 days!! I think that says a lot of what Malika and Chip are doing design wise. I am attaching a before and after photo of what took place in approx. 6 weeks.

Overall M. Designs provided a good design for our expansion and the final product was beautiful. The reason I only gave them 3 stars is the following: 1. They in no way respected our overall project budget, offering suggestions far outstripping it. In the end our costs were nearly double our desired budget, and their designs had asked for even more! 2. The architect was late or a no show several times during the planning sessions, wasting our time 3. They nickeled and dimed us. This may be standard for architects, but months after the project planning phase is done it doesn't feel good to be hit with a $300 bill for answering an email! Overall I'd only recommend if you have a huge budget and don't care too much about cost as they are definitely not cheap or respectful of smaller budgets.

After reading the review of our services from Eric and Clarissa I tried to reach out to them to discuss their dissatisfaction with our services. So far, they have not responded: I’ve included my email so there’s no misunderstanding of what was sent to them. We're glad that they are content with the final product, but we did have a different understanding of the situation where the budget was concerned.
In our practice we offer suggestions and advice – as do all architects. We make serious efforts to discuss the pros and cons of planning and design decisions and involve our clients in every decision. That said, we do take to heart when a client says we were not respectful of their budget.
Every homeowner has a budget. We have to honor those budgets. We always recommend that projects be estimated by contractors at the conclusion of the schematic design phase and prior to preparing the construction documents. We have found this to be a good way to determine if the original budget is reasonable; if not, the homeowner has options – commit more resources to the project or work with the design team to revise the work to fit within the budget.
In this instance, Eric and Clarissa chose to use a relative as the General Contractor. We were not made aware of the construction costs in the contract that was based on the Construction Documents. It was our understanding that there would be cost savings because the work was being done by a family member. So, to say were not respectful of their budget is not true.
We’re disappointed in their experience as we had a different understanding of the situation. We’re still hopeful that they will respond to us so we can discuss their experiences and come to a mutual understanding.

Earth Bound Homes

i am a builder that specializes in deep green homes and remodels. I have worked with Chip and Malika for a few years now and while i really like them as people, I really appreciate them for the way they run their company. Many architects have an attitude when it comes to contractors in that they don't value their opinions very much, even though we often know the discreet technicalities of the home much better than the architects do once, the job has started. I like working with Chip because he seems to understand that we all have a way of looking at things and that having all of these different ideas about how things go together just increases your chances of getting it just perfect. He is always willing to listen and then gives great advice on how to resolve issues when they arise. In fact, our job a couple of years ago won a big city wide award for the greenest home in all of Menlo Part that year, and that was for homeowners who was not inherently green. They just knew they wanted a great home that was safe, comfortable, efficient and durable. Chip designed them a home that was inundated with light and beautiful to boot. That is one of the houses I am most proud of building in all my career, and I have been doing this for a while. In short, i cannot recommend them enough and I think working with Chip and Malika would be a great first step to building you your new fream home. I know I can't wait for our next job together. .

We did two projects with Malika and love the results. She planned two remodel/ additions for us plus helped with some interior design choices. Our house is modern but she also did my brothers house which is ranch style.
