Derrick and Deeann were fantastic to work with. They were professional and flexible and kept within their promised schedule notwithstanding that they run a busy outfit and in were in the midst of a shop move during our construction. They were helpful and involved in the design aspect of the job - something you won't get with a larger manufacturer. Kniss is an excellent, bespoke cabinet maker who provide a high level of customer service and painstaking attention to detail. We had a complete kitchen makeover, a new walk-in closet, new laundry and beautiful millwork for an entertainment wall in our den including a secret, hideaway bookcase door, cleverly designed to roll fully-laden, open and shut - all completed on time, on budget and the work is top class. Derrick has a great design eye combined with the practicality of a great craftsman. Lovely people to deal with, responsive and quick to attend to any follow-up issues. Highly recommended.

Working with Derrick and Deeann was amazing. No detail in our bookcases amd closet built in were overlooked, everything from ensuring the stain matched our existing mantle to finishing around the existing stone, and that our closet layout was perfect, even the clean up after they were done, I think it was cleaner than before they arrived. Kniss Custom Woodwork exceeded our expectations for quality and workmanship on our kitchen cabinets. From the designs that Derrick created all through to installation, we were very impressed. Derrick worked over the weekend to install our new cabinets to help accommodate our schedules. We ran into some issues when we discovered asbestos that caused significant delays in the project. Kniss was very understanding and accommodating as we dealt with the abatement. If it wasn't for delays on our end, we would have been done well ahead of the original schedule. I highly recommend Kniss for any custom woodwork projects. We will certainly be back for our next project.

I wanted to write this review of our experiences with Derrick because I was so thrilled with the work he did for us. We needed to find a carpenter to install our kitchen cabinets as well as build a matching custom hood fan cover based on a design (picture) I found on the internet. Unfortunately I didn’t have any personal experience in finding this type of trade so (of course) I turned to Google which lead me to the Kniss Custom Woodwork profile on Houzz. I read the reviews and looked at all the pictures, but being skeptical in nature, I wondered if those were stock photos, or really of the jobs that Kniss Custom Woodwork had done. I contacted them to discuss my idea. A couple days later Derrick came over to discuss the project in person. As a first time customer of Kniss, I was not sure what to expect. Obviously the finished result was the most important thing, but not at any cost. I was very impressed by what I saw in the Houzz pictures, but I also was concerned with timing as I had electrical, gas, and flooring trades involved in the project as well. I needed Derrick to be flexible from a timing perspective, and a firm commitment for work on site. While on site Derrick came prepared. His mobile carpentry shop had everything he needed. The work site in our home was kept neat as could be expected. He did the messy cuts outside, and had special shroud for his mitre saw for the small ‘indoor’ cuts. After the cabinets were installed, he made all the final adjustments, to doors, etc, then installed the crown moulding and valences which really demonstrated his skill as a craftsman. The end result was impressive, we could not wait to see the hood fan cover, which he would design and construct in his shop, and install later. The day came when he returned with the hood fan cover. Simply put, it is gorgeous. It completed the kitchen, and it is perfect. In my opinion, this custom piece was extremely difficult to build. Although it is a simple design, every cut is at an angle. The pieces must fit to exacting standards, and the end result must be symmetrical. One mistake and it compromises the entire piece as it is the focal point of the kitchen. Clearly Derrick has high standards and an eye for detail, his work is second to none. The job was reasonably priced and we are looking to have him start another project for us very soon. A creative experience every time I work with Kniss Custom Woodwork. Derrick helped me take my renovation ideas and evolved them into timeless classic pieces of functional furniture! Derrick is detail orianted and finished projects on time and on budget.

Working with Kniss was a pleasure. I found them very professional and the finished buffet was exactly what we wanted. We worked with them through the whole process and our opinion mattered. The work area was cleaned up when he was finished so there was nothing left but to enjoy our new cabinet. I would not hesitate to contact them for my next custom piece.

Derrick constructed a custom, built-in wine cabinet, kitchen/bar cabinets, and an entertainment center for a basement renovation for us in 2015. He did an excellent job. He tied in colours and themes from the main floor of the house throughout the basement so that there was a feeling of unity. He also seemlessly covered several oddly placed HVAC bulkheads (placed by HVAC contractor) so that we could still access them, if needed, but they appeared as part of the beautiful cabinets. He completed the project on time and always cleaned up before leaving for the day. Derrick was great to work with.

Derrick designed a custom frame for a large oval stained glass piece for our home. I made the mistake of designing the stained glass window prior to first considering the difficulty of making a frame to fit around it once the project was complete. Derricks expertise and attention to detail on the frame ensured that the stained glass that I worked so hard to create, looked as beautiful as I intended it too once up in the window of our home. I couldn't be happier with it!
