I am a designer in more than one facet and can vouch for the beautiful, expedient, and meticulous work of Colao & Peter. I was hired as a consultant and after my experience felt that it was necessary that I wrote a review! My most notable observation was regarding the relationship that Colao & Peter created between themselves and the client. Everyone at Colao & Peter, regardless of their amount of interaction with client, was excited invested in creating the best experience not only after the project was completed but also during the process.This is something that is not always true of the fields at Colao & Peter reside among. The entire project team was great. The Project Manager assigned really kept us updated as they made progress on our Deck and Patio! The design that they came up with for the entire backyard is perfect! The customization detail really matched the Deck/Patio to the Georgian style of our home!

We hired Colao and Peter to build a residential pool in a tight backyard space. We had spoken with several other builders, including national chains. We decided to use Colao and Peter because of their thoughtful and personalized pool and landscape design. Their team is focused on the details and have the experience and expertise to execute it in impressive ways. Their landscape design was beautiful, the masonry work was excellent, and the pool superb. We love the finished work and are constantly receiving compliments on the work. They have transformed a rarely used backyard space in the hot and humid summer into a wonderful outdoor extension of our home.

I could not be more pleased with the quality of work performed. The design fit beautifully with the constraints of the landscape. The work was well planned and the execution of the work went on schedule with the exception of unavoidable weather delays. They will stick to work until it is done to your satisfaction.

Colao Stone just completed the landscape design, hardscapes, softscapes, storm water management, pool and spa installation on a large home (16,000 sq ft) we are just completing. They came highly recommended and have surpassed all expectations. Both JR Peter and Joe Colao are true professionals that we (home builders) would use again. It was a pleasure to have them as sole source for nearly all of the exterior portions of the project. They stayed involved and interested through out all phases of the work, personally inspecting the quality and progress. I have no hesitation in recommending them for large and small projects (including swimming pools and spas).

My wife and I hired Calao Stone to replace the steps, walkway, and front patio garden planter for our Capitol Hill rowhome in Washington. Before we contacted Mike Moser at Calao Stone, we had reached out to multiple masons and landscape architects and had been unsatisfied with their exorbitant estimates and long projected lead times. Everything changed when we met Mike, however; he was extremely prompt, professional, and responsive, and provided a very reasonable estimate and timeframe for our renovation project. The estimate from Calao was so much better than their competitors that we also decided to place flagstone on our back patio -- and all for the same estimate as some masons proposed to simply replace our stairs and walkway. Calao also recommended that we choose our stone from a local quarry in Maryland that carried an enormous amount of beautiful stone; my wife was very pleased with the price and selection. Making matters even easier, Mike offered to begin the work while we were away from town over the Christmas holidays. While this took a leap of faith, Mike's professionalism and daily email updates during our absence made the process very smooth. Calao's crews completely transformed our relatively-small rowhome entrance and back patio; the crew even broke the stone by hand for our new front yard planter. The excellent quality of the masonry is apparent at first sight. In short, if you're looking for professional, timely, reasonable stonework in the Washington, D.C., area, choose Calao Stone. Mike Moser was a pleasure to work with and we recommend him and Calao without reservation.

J.R. and his company were the answer to our problems. J.R. guided us through an assessment of our design and life style likes and dislikes and came up with a woodland garden design. Today, four years later, J.R.'s individualized design plus his choice of trees, plants, and stonework have turned our backyard into a beautiful oasis that we enjoy every season. Colao Stone uses a team approach for a project and the clients are part of that team; J.R. was always receptive to our questions and comments. All aspects of the extensive project were taken care of by the company and their excellent employees. My wife and I simply stood back and enjoyed watching the transformation of our backyard on a daily basis. Colao Stone & Design designed and installed two stone patios (one with a two foot semi-circle stone wall) and a full deck, complete landscaping and outdoor LED lighting. Colao acted as general contractor for the deck project and lighting, but performed all services relating to patios and landscaping. The stone wall contains a section that is capable of being expanded to include a fireplace in the future.It could not have gone smoother. Colao's principal designer, JR, designed the entire project, taking into account all of our needs and he helped us to envision the entire project using the latest technology and printouts. The quality of the stone and the construction of the patios and the wall was first rate. And they used a terrific subcontractor who constructed our deck using wood and composite decking materials that will likely outlast the house itself. It's a solid construction all around (you have only to walk on it to feel how solid it is). The lighting was designed for flexibility, so that we could add on over time; we've taken advantage of that and have installed additional LED lighting since the project was completed in 2010. The landscaping was done in a very professional manner and we've lost very few plantings since installation. Everything has grown in quite nicely and the whole side patio is just a very pleasant place to spend time. Joe Colao and JR were the nicest folks to deal with; they were always responsive to questions, they always answered their phones when we called them, and they solved any problems when they arose. All in all, it was the best experience that we have ever had with a contractor...and we've had quite a few experiences over the sixteen years that we've lived in this home. I would recommend Joe and JR to anyone who is looking for quality construction and outstanding service.
