CAST architecture

We worked with Stefan Hampden from CAST to design a master suite in our attic. Stefan proposed two designs within our limitations (budget, keeping the house in the vein of its original architecture, considering the way we live and what we like to have as features in our home) and worked steadfastly with us to tweak our chosen design until it was exactly what we wanted. He made several very detailed, complex alterations to the design to satisfy some rather challenging customer requirements and we are extremely happy with the outcome of his entire design. Stefan is very easy to work with, has clear schedules, budgets and budget vs actual tracking, which made the process very simple for us. We wish everyone had that level of organization!! Stefan also worked directly with our contractor when requested to clarify the complex design work that he had added in for us. The house looks amazing and we have already received several compliments from the neighbors regarding how we maintained the look and feel of the original house in the new design. We had no complaints/concerns at all. Look no further for an architect - Stefan and CAST are top notch!

Tim Hammer Nailed it! We told him the styles we liked and he thoughtfully considered the property and created a small home that is wonderful! Our back yard cottage has a modern tree house feeling. There is drama and function throughout, we stayed on budget and we could not be more happy with our end product. The whole team at Cast is super professional and great to work with!

In 2011, Forrest Murphy and CAST designed our remodel which was less of a remodel and more a complete rebuild. We lived in a 100 year old 800 square foot box. Forrest kept the original frame of our modest home and created an addition that allowed the house to retain its bungalow charm. The result is a beautiful, 1800 square foot modern home that we love. The modern addition has two passive solar concrete walls that allowed us to keep our utility bills at pre-construction level. CAST combines the best of artistry, engineering and pragmatism. We had a great experience working with them.

We have nothing but the highest praise for the whole team at CAST. We worked with both Tim and Stefan on a remodel of a house that we purchased in Wallingford. From start to finish, both of them were a pleasure to work with and far exceeded our expectations. They worked closely with us to understand our space needs as a family and our budget limitations. My husband and I worked with Tim Hammer on a remodel in July 2015. Tim was wonderful! He was so easy to work with and created a plan that worked for our family. We worked with Tim Hammer at CAST on our house remodel and had a great experience from the start of the project to the end. During the design phase, Tim kept us focused on figuring out what was most important to us and patiently worked through the many changes we made. Tim Hammer from CAST worked with us on the renovation of my mother in law's 1920's bungalow in Ravenna/Bryant. He had the patience of a saint and was able to incorporate all of our views, mine, my husband and mother in law, even the interested close friend with some design thoughts. He was patient and understood exactly what we were looking for in taking this property from vintage 1960 and 800 square feet to updated and double the size. He was also able to work in features making it eventually handicap accessible without it looking obvious. He was always a pleasure to work with and responsive immediately if there was a question. I have no hesitation recommending him.

A lengthy and thorough review of many Architectural firms was undertaken to entrust building a home from scratch for my family and me. Now that the project is nearing completion, I can, with 100% confidence, state that CAST Architecture was the right firm for the job. Why? CAST listens and is not afraid to make suggestions. CAST has established relationships in all of the right places that allow the job to proceed smoothly. CAST views the project as a total team effort, from start to finish. Stefan and Matt were always available for even the most minor detail work. Their creative approach to design and functionality has truly made the difference in making this home spectacular.

I had the pleasure of working with Stefan @ CAST for what started as a kitchen remodel and turned into a whole house remodel. We moved our stair case and front entry, added a wet bar and laundry room to our basement, and created a new kitchen For reference, my home is a two level home built in 1956. Stefan was actively involved from project inception through completion. We spent roughly 9 months in the design phase and 4 months in construction. Things I liked about working with Stefan during the design phase: 1. Stefan was very up front with how costs and billing works. I appreciated the transparency. 2. Stefan didn't let the house constrain his thinking, our remodel grew in scope because he was able to reimagine how the interior of the house should flow and corrected many of the deficiencies in the original design. 3. Stefan was very helpful in picking finishes, matching colors, and picking accents like lighting. 4. Stefan was able to recommend a strong contractor to do the work. We are using the same contractor for another large project. After design we moved to the actual construction. Stefan served as both a project manager and as our advocate when dealing with the construction company. The project went smoothly overall but where there were disagreements between the contractor and my wife and I, (as should be expected for a project of this size), Stefan was always professional and worked to make the right thing happen. Stefan visited the site regularly and ensured the work was happening correctly and to the quality level we expected. Stefan was also very helpful when we hit remodel "fatigue", the time in the project where neither my wife nor I were really in a frame of mind where we were willing or able to make any of the myriad of micro decisions that get too exhausting to deal with after a few months of remodeling. These decisions, however small, add up to being where the "character" of the house comes from. Stefan's designs for the trim and detail work on our stair case for example are incredible and not something we ever discussed. His eye towards design alone is worth it.

This is not something that can always be said about the remodeling experience. Tim has a wonderful design aesthetic, an attention to detail and an innovative mind that sees the potential and possibility with spaces, and then, with immaculate attention, makes those ideas into a reality. Along with those talents comes a strong ability to communicate well, to hear what we wanted, to help us clarify what we really did (and did not want) and to guide us through the process. Tim was firm when we needed him to be but was always respectful. To just put the whole experience over the top, Tim is a fun and kind person which made spending many hours together during a potentially stressful situation, an enjoyable time. The end result, as far as the product we arrived at, is a home that is beautiful and functional. It has little details that catch you by surprise and make you smile. The natural light throughout the house is phenomenal. We wanted Tim to help us connect our indoor living space with the outside and he did so beautifully. There are big vistas to the outside, as well as small peeks of trees and earth and plants that help provide that desired connection. We asked Tim to help us conceptualize and design the overall flow of the home, which involved changing the orientation of the front entrance and adding on a second story as well as adding space to the ground floor. Tim was able to introduce design elements that allowed the "old" space to relate seamlessly with the new space. Not only did Tim design the flow, he also added incredible details to the design that allowed the finish result to be a true work of craftsmanship and art. For example, the half walls that separated the old living room from the new space allowed a flow of light and connection through the house, but they were designed in such a way that they were beautiful to look at with fine wood working details and proportions. Tim truly helped us design and create a home that feels beautiful, functional, connected to the outdoors, unique and just what we wanted.
