Alderwood Landscape Architecture and Construction

We used Alderwood for a total yard overhaul - back and front tear out and re-landscape along with a good amount of hardscaping (walkways, patio, and fire pit area). Also installed irrigation. Had a great experience at every stage of the project, from initial consultation and design with their landscape architect, to coordinating with their project manager, to the team who came out for final work completion. Initial project estimate was in line with final budget, communication was solid throughout, everyone we had a chance to work with was friendly and professional. Their recommended contacts for tree removal and masonry work were awesome as well. Total time for the project was around 8 weeks, including some very cold and snowy January mornings where the crew showed up like clockwork and kept working on the project. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Alex and his crew were timely, dependable, hard working, and were respectful of our yard/house and the neighbors throughout construction. We had a great experience with Alderwood getting our backyard done. We have a newer house with an average sized backyard with not-so-great soil drainage. Tim created a great design for the space and patiently walked us through his choices and his reasons, accepted our input and feedback until we had a design that we liked. Patrick and his crew (Michael, Colin and Anthony) took over from there and put in a huge amount of work to make the plan a reality. They took care of handling the drainage issues, implementing the design and constantly keeping us up to date on what was happening, any external choices we needed to make, etc. We got a sense that they really cared about doing a great job with a high degree of fit and finish and were not trying to rush through the project. They were also very respectful of our neighbors (they needed to use heavy machinery, so noise and access to the backyard were an issue) and keeping the work area as clean as possible. We got quotes from other landscapers and finally decided to go with Alderwood. They were not the cheapest, but they did an awesome job and we felt we got what we paid for. Our backyard looks fantastic!

Pat and his crew did a superb job with our backyard remodel. They were prompt, courteous, communicated with us throughout the process, and went above and beyond just about daily throughout the project. Jeff built us an outdoor structure that’s a beautiful focal point. Alderwood also relies on the “best” when it comes to the other contractors that helped get the job done. In the end, our backyard exceeded even our highest expectations and we look forward to using it for years to come!

We just finished up our project with Alderwood and we still can't believe this is our yard because it's better than anything we could have ever dreamed. We first met with Tim the landscape architect because my husband and I were clueless on what to do with our backyard that was overgrown in places and not functional. Tim saw the amazing potential in our yard and came up with a plan to redo the pool area, add an outdoor structure, fire table and entertaining area and new fence for our pups and kids. Seeing it on paper and then seeing it come to life over the last 4 months has been incredible. Tim personally picked every plant for our yard because we know nothing about plants and trees and it feels like a peaceful retreat now. Alderwood was outstanding from start to finish! If you are looking for a higher level of customer service that takes care of every detail then go with Alderwood. We looked at 4 companies for our backyard remodel and went with Alderwood because of their great reputation and that they handle every detail including the subcontractors such as gas, electrical and fencing. Alderwood made everything so easy for us. We are 1000% happy with the backyard remodel. They took the design to a higher level and gave us our dream backyard. Pat and his crew spent the first 10 days on demo of all our concrete walkways, and that was a brutal job. Took care to save existing plants we wanted to keep and replanted them in new settings at the end. Extremely hardworking crew, beautifully installed patio pavers, irrigation system and new landscape plantings. Built an amazing custom water feature with multiple pumps, and capped it off with LED lighting of the entire project. Thanks guys!

Alderwood exceeded our expectations. Tim understood our vision and created a modern, elegant, and functional design. Johnny's advice on materials to use for the patio, walls and lighting was spot on. I had originally picked a product that I thought would work, however, after our first meeting I realized I made the wrong choice. I was thrilled he provided his opinion. We were pleasantly surprised that our job started earlier than the original estimated date and that it was finished in a shorter timeframe than expected. Devin, Jose, Jose and Santos were fantastic. The crew was here on time and ready to go every day and they worked very consistently all day. They kept me informed on any changes that arose and gave me daily updates on progress and next steps. Our back yard (and front yard) water features were designed and constructed by Alderwood in 2016. We absolutely love these additions to our property. Any time there has been a need for their service asistance, Alderwood has done a great job of attending to the issue. A couple of weeks ago, one of the water feature pumps broke down and needed replacement. Justin Wean who is Alderwood's warranty and service supervisor, showed up pretty quickly with a replacement pump in his truck! He replaced the pump and made all the necessary adjustments to get the water feature running again. I appreciated Alderwood's and especially Justin's commitment to servicing their already constructed water features.

When contemplating our backyard transformation, we spoke with many design-build companies. Alderwood wasn’t the cheapest…in fact they were at the top of the pricing estimates. That said, we felt like their process, attention to detail and level of communication was worth it for a project of this scope. wow, am I glad we made that decision. I have been in customer service/sales for 20+ years and it takes a lot to impress me. From the infancy, through completion the entire Alderwood team knocked it out of the park! Tim crafted an incredible design, considering all concerns (above standard drainage, sightlines for water feature/covered structure, partially sunken hot tub, etc.). Johnny answered all project questions and coordinated scheduling for all contractors and material deliveries. Both site managers, Jordan and Jose’s attention to detail and level of communication throughout the project was incredible. They took time at the end of each day to explain what they had completed that day and confirm specific design details for the next phases of the project. At project completion, Justin has taken over to ensure everything is functioning properly and answer all remaining questions. Additionally, the two subcontractors recommended by Alderwood, Jeff (carpenter building the covered structure) and Kurt (Mason building the kitchen and fire table) have been excellent! Their level of detail is consistent with the standard set by the Alderwood Team. Needless to say, I can’t Recommend Alderwood Landscaping enough! They truly turned our vision into a reality of a backyard, resort style oasis that we will enjoy year-round.

I am pretty stingy when it comes to writing reviews because everyone wants a 5-Star review and I really believe the fifth star demands exceptional service. I must say that a feel really good about giving Alderwood the full 5th Stars. Tim drew up a nice plan recognizing and addressing significant issues before the arose and became change orders. The team worked through unprecedented challenges like the pandemic, major supply chain challenges and the City of Seattle Dept of Construction and Inspection. Devin and the work crew showed up last fall on the day it started to rain and made steady progress despite the uncooperative weather. Johnny and Devin did a great job coordinating with subcontractors to get the deck and outdoor kitchen built and gas appliances and fireplace installed. They even got multiple bids from plumbers and surveyors that contracted directly with me to help me get the best deal. But the 5th star is earned when things don’t go as planned. We had a difficult neighbor who went out of his way to make an honest misunderstanding as inconvenient and expensive to rectify as possible. Alderwood stepped right up and helped us do everything possible to rectify the situation in a timely and efficient manner. We had a drainage issue in a corner of the yard and Devin responded immediately to resolve the situation while minimizing the disruption and damage to the landscape. Recently they came by and notice a couple of the plants were not doing well and took steps to rectify that. Every member of the team has been friendly, professional, responsive at every step in the process. I have considered it a privilege work with them. I will happily recommend Alderwood to my friends and colleagues and will go out of my way to work with them again should the opportunity arise.

This is our second project with Alderwood. Tim designed an awesome resort style backyard with a firepit, water feature, trampoline area, and an outdoor kitchen. Johnny kept the project moving despite the many challenges. For example, he reached out to a neighboring HOA even though he did not know anything about the board to resolve a fence issue. Patrick, Drew and the crew were amazing! They were not able to use standard equipment to move boulders so they made it work with smaller equipment. They demonstrated incredible skill and attention to detail by maneuvering boulders in a narrow space between our house and fence line. The backyard turned out incredible. Definitely looking forward to the summer!

Alderwood Landscaping is amazing! We gutted our backyard and started entirely over. Craig, Alex, Nate and Josh were the best crew we could have asked for hands down. We initially contacted Alderwood after our neighbors started on a very large project that included structural elements to hold back a hill and provide more space. They said they had a good experience with their architect Bryan so we decided to reach out. Upon meeting Bryan and discussing the project we really felt on the same page and he took in all our requirements while also coming up with great options we hadn't considered. Our project was tricky because we're in an erosion hazard zone, have a small lot, and are on a steep hill. We wanted more usable space we could enjoy and a safer environment for our kids. The designs and surveying were done efficiently and Bryan took any feedback we gave and ran with it. On top of that he also drew up an additional layout he thought we might like and we actually went with that. Really above and beyond and we were super happy. Come build time our PM, Johnny, got all of our materials lined up quickly and took time to come by and show us everything in person. Hugely helpful even in this difficult situation given covid and the supply chain challenges. Because of this we didn't have to delay the project for lack of materials. He was also very communicative when it came to subs or any schedule adjustments. He even managed comms with our custom fire table builder to ensure things lined up correctly and were built to spec. I never felt in the dark which is critical on projects like this. Our on site manager, Devin, and his crew were awesome. They built something beyond our expectations and were awesome to have on site. Our kids loved watching the process and asking questions. If anything needed to be adjusted or changed, Devin was on it with a smile on his face even if it was going to be tricky. I never felt like I was ruining his day if something needed to be done. In construction there are always unknowns and he communicated those to us and the rest of the team so we could all work together to come to a solution. Our site was very tight and challenging and they did an amazing job handling that. Devin was also great in managing our neighbors feedback. Construction can be disruptive and he ensured it was to the minimal amount possible given we share a driveway. He also adjusted the start time in the morning which helped us and our neighbors. The only real issues we had with our project were with city permits which aren't something Alderwood can control. The rest was honestly a delight and I will for sure be hiring Alderwood for future projects either on this property or a future property. Everyone is truly impressed with what was able to be done including us.

We are SO pleased with our experience with Alderwood. EVERY step of our patio paver project was done with the highest quality and integrity —from design to finish detail. Not one hiccup or weirdness. The quality of the work is incredible, but the people make the experience JOYFUL & STRESS FREE! This review must sound so cheesy, but we genuinely loved having Pat and the crew at our house. The crew was so professional, efficient, skilled, and respectful. Pat and his crew showed up at same time every day, kept things tidy, had smiles and laughs to share. They even worked in snow. The final product is identical to original design (done by Bryan — we love him too) and Jonathan (PM) ensured we were aware of every step, no surprises or delays. Such a joy! We will miss them and think of them often while enjoying our lovely space. Thankfully, we have one other project in progress. When my husband first found Alderwood online, he said, “they have the highest reviews.” I kind of rolled my eyes, thinking they probably paid for the exposure. Not true. Alderwood is exceptional and I feel so lucky to be able to have them do our work. Also, their sub contractors for electrical, general carpentry, and masonry prioritize Alderwood projects above their own backlog — what a blessing to get top of the line of priority in a crazy time of waitlists and labor shortages. Last thing — the attention to detail on drainage is amazing. Trust the unseen work will pay off in dividends for long-term usability. So thankful for Alderwood!

We had a big dream, and Alderwood helped us turn it into reality. We wanted to turn our drab, builder-grade patio, dying lawn, and outdated/overgrown planters into a backyard worthy of the home we fell in love with. Also, we wanted to improve the access point from our home, in order to enjoy it more thoroughly. Bryan took our ideas and ran with them. We worked together to hone in on our needs and embellish or cut back where needed. The whole project required other contractors (some of which weren't our favorite to work with), but Alderwood coordinated the whole thing, and we appreciated that. It was an ordeal, as many home improvements tend to be, but we were so pleased to have a professional, experienced team in our corner to make sure the job was done right. We're proud of the results, and our neighbors told us they were envious of the new yard. We have never spent so much time out in the backyard as we did this year, and that's thanks to Alderwood.

Patrick and his crew did an amazing job in transforming our backyard to a true resort style living space. Our project took around two months to complete. During this time he would make it a point to meet with us daily to ensure that we were satisfied with the progress that was being made. Patrick is a true perfectionist and has great attention to detail. He did not rush through the project ,but instead ensured that every area in our backyard looked perfect and was as per the design plan. Also, if there were some additional tweaks that we wanted to do, he was very accommodating for that as well. We had a truly wonderful renovation on our backyard by Alderwood Landscaping. From start to finish, they were professional and obviously took great pride in their work. They made a beautiful plan for our backyard, making sure to take into account our wishes and feedback. The work was done correctly and in a timely fashion once it started. My only complaint is that it took them 6-7 months from when we signed with them until they were able to start as they are quite popular. Overall, our backyard is now an oasis which looks like it is out of a magazine. We love it, use it often, and are very happy customers.

We are so happy with our backyard project. The end product turned out great, and the process was so smooth and easy for us. They built a beautiful entryway to our backyard that ensures a surprise as soon as our guests cross into our yard. The backyard has three unique but connected spaces. It includes a Zen like garden space. A patio that is perfect for entertaining and relaxing on a warm Summer night, And, to finish, a fire pit that is a fantastic focal point that creates an alluring atmosphere to chill and socialize—serving to complement our backyard oasis on a starry night. The overall design is, at the same time, both beautiful and practical. Alderwood’s talented team is no doubt a very critical part of their success but the secret sauce is the strength and conviction of their leadership. I am absolutely impressed with Alderwood Lanscaping. Rarely in my experience construction has been so smooth, from planning, to execution, to cleanup. Good landscape architecture and great scheduling, ability to stay on top of sub contractors, amazing crew for actual construction. In our case, we also had really tough drainage problems that they were able to solve flawlessly. We worked with Tim Glass for architecture, Jonathan Struiksma for scheduling and management, and our construction crew was led by Nick Lane. Across the board amazing service, even the ones I haven't mentioned here.

We love our new backyard patio! Patrick and Johnny worked meticulously last summer to make sure every detail was addressed. The patio is beautiful. The landscaping plan by Tim is great and works well with what we already had in the front of the house. The entire team is extremely professional and thoughtful about every step of the process -- and the crew worked super hard through some hot weather at the end of the summer. They also managed the permitting seamlessly and, on top of all of that, they stayed on schedule and were done quickly. The new patio has also held up very well this winter. Thank you, Alderwood!

Our just-finished backyard is absolutely incredible! We ran through a design process with Tim Glass, where his team iterated with us on various ideas for the back yard. At each stage, they were patient, collaborative, and reacted eagerly to feedback we had around budget, scope, and priorities. When we decided to re-imagine our backyard and modernize the space from the original 80's layout, we interviewed 3 different companies including Alderwood Landscaping. Tim Glass met with us to understand our needs/wants/ideas and we were immediately inspired by his vision on how to transform our backyard living space into a completely gorgeous layout. Alderwood has recently completed a backyard landscaping project for us. We needed to completely redo / renovate our front and backyard and reached out to Alderwood. Tim Glass was incredible in capturing our thoughts, ideas and our desires for use and maintenance. Not only was he professional but extremely responsive and followed through on all commitments. He’s funny too and gelled well with our personalities. Let’s be clear, Alderwood is a “design build” company and thus you pay a premium for their work. Which is what we needed as we did not want to manage such a large complicated project. And the quality, service, and outcome reflects that. Our end results are absolutely stunning and exactly what we envisioned. Jonathan, our PM was equally responsive and professional. Especially when we had questions about some selections of stone, etc. It was important to both Tim and Jonathan that we were happy with our choices and met us the stone place for selections. This is even after we selected flag stones and they arrived and I realized they would not fit our overall look. Not a peep from the team and the stones were returned and we selected new ones. The crew who worked on our site; Jordan, Nate, and Marvin were amazing. Showed up each day (Many days in pouring rain) with a smile as we walked through the project every morning for status and next steps. They ensured everything was exactly what we wanted. Answered all my questions and moved and changed even the smallest little adjustments. They were prompt and cleaned up the job site every day to perfection. They too were funny and a great crew to be around. They were respectful and professional throughout. We can highly recommend Alderwood to anyone who are thinking about a complete new yard or modifications to an existing space. Ours included, patios, fire pit, boulders and outcroppings, and landscaping / planting. We absolutely love it.

We can not say enough great things about the team at Alderwood. Outdoor space is a rare commodity in our neighborhood and we desperately wanted to take the useless space we had and turn it into something we could enjoy. We knew after meeting their landscape architect, Tim, that this was the perfect company to bring our vision to life. He met with us several times to talk about our wants and needs and worked with the HOA and architectural review board to get our design approved quickly. Jonathan and his onsite crew were amazing from start to finish! He was always in constant contact with the subcontractors so we always knew who was coming when, what they would be doing and how long they'd be at the house. We hired Alderwood to reimagine our backyard including a gorgeous water feature with small pond, re-tiling a large patio and installing a putting green. They also did extensive drainage work, which was really important. The experience was just fantastic from Bryan’s design and Jonathan’s oversight to the amazing daily care of the crew headed by Patrick and his hard workers Drew, Walter and Chase. Patrick really cares about his clients and never said no to a single idea we had. I would not hesitate to use them again and would highly recommend their work.

We hired Alderwood in the fall of 2018 to do a complete design and install on our backyard including a large patio with retaining wall - coordinated with a pool install - regrading areas , plantings, etc.. The project turned out beautiful and was completed in June 2019. In late January, the severe rain storms that hit our area overran our property drainage system (that had worked for the last 30 years) and flooded our property and house crawl space. This was NOT an Alderwood issue, however, we were desperate for help to stop the water. I called Alderwood and within an hour Jordan Muhs arrived with a pump and 2 crew members who immediately started hand digging a 20 ft. trench to redirect the overflow of rainwater away from our house. An hour later the pump was installed in our crawl and running full force, and the trench that they dug was carrying off water and the flooding was stopped! Jordan came by the next morning to be sure everything was still draining properly and their pump still running. I can't begin to say how over the top their response was to my problem, nor how much I appreciate the attitude and work that Jordan and his guys were able to accomplish or us.

6 years ago Alderwood did a beautiful makeover of our backyard, including waterfall, lighted pond, fire pit and other improvements. Over the years, some of the lighting failed and the waterfall wasn’t working as it should. When I called them, the person answering the phone was great. The guys cane out the very next day, scoped out the job. They came back the next day, installed everything. Explained what else we might need. It was a real pleasure working with these professionals. I definitely recommend them!

We hired Alderwood Landscaping and Design to convert our existing landscape into a more beautiful and functional space, something we had been wanting to do for many years. I am pleased to say that our expectations were surpassed, and we are delighted with the result! Tim Glass, the landscape architect for the project, was a pleasure to work with as he met with us several times to refine the design as he endeavored to understand what we were after and to stay within the constraints of our budget. The unexpected surprise on this project was that they had a construction opening after we signed the contract, due to some permit delays on other projects, so the demo and construction work started immediately, several months ahead of our expectation. The project manager Johnny and the construction crew – Craig, Adam, Dustin, and Alex – were awesome! They were a pleasure to get to know and talk to about what we wanted, and they bent over backwards to make sure that everything was just right. For example, as they were cutting and placing the stones for the steps, there would have been a 6” gap that would not have looked very good with a small filler piece, so Craig recut the other stones to make everything look symmetrical, and the result is beautiful! I highly recommend Alderwood and Craig’s crew if you are looking for someone to develop your landscaping project!

We are nearing completion of our 3rd project with Alderwood, dating back over the past 8 years. Repeat business is a sure sign of satisfaction in our case! Our backyard has been transformed into "backyard resort living", to borrow Alderwood's tag line! Tim Glass has done a fantastic job in capturing our vision and translating it to a plan. We moved to our new home earlier this year in anticipation of retirement at year end. We were delighted with the house, which sits on over four acres, but the landscaping hadn’t been well maintained and didn’t match the way we hope to enjoy our home for the next twenty years. After doing some research, we contacted Alderwood Landscaping and met with Tim Glass to discuss our initial ideas for improving the landscaping. Tim visited us at our home, walked with us around the property, listened carefully to our ideas, and offered some suggestions of his own. Based on that conversation and on our favorable impression of other Alderwood projects we had viewed online, we decided to work with Tim on some initial design ideas. Alderwood began by completing a survey of the existing landscaping and improvements. With this information, Tim prepared some initial design concepts for us to review and discuss, along with some preliminary cost estimates. When reviewing his concepts, we were impressed at how carefully he had listened to us while also delighting us with some ideas we hadn’t previously considered. The cost estimates were higher than we originally expected, but Tim took time to explain the cost implications of each component of the project so we could make thoughtful decisions about adjusting the scope of work to better match our budget. Alderwood was able to start the work in early summer, sooner than we initially anticipated, and worked steadily on it through completion in early fall. The on-site crew of four, led by Jordan, worked very hard throughout the project duration. They were very professional, communicated extensively with us on a daily basis to make sure the work met our expectations, and offered suggestions along the way to make a great design even a little better. The project involved extensive hardscaping on sloping terrain, including rock retaining walls, a water feature with waterfalls, some flagstone walkways and pavestone patios. We were delighted at the artistry with which Jordan and his team were able to transform a pile of boulders into a beautiful Pacific Northwest landscape. We were so pleased with the design and workmanship that, before it was completed, we added more work that we had originally deferred until some later time. There are still some details to be completed in the spring, but we are thoroughly delighted and amazed at the transformation Alderwood has made to our landscape. We will enjoy this investment for many years to come. Based on our experience and satisfaction, we heartily recommend Alderwood, Tim, and the entire team with whom we had the pleasure of working.

Alderwood created a beautiful outdoor living space in our backyard that we absolutely love! Tim produced a plan that was more functional and unique than we could have ever imagined on our own. Just finished a 2nd project with Alderwood Landscaping. We worked with this company in 2011 for our 1st backyard project including patio extension, firepit build, water feature and pergola. We decided to add to our patio space to accomodate a hot tub with this recent project. Patrick and his crew were fantastic and professional to work with. My husband and I had a modest sized but very visible project we needed to have done. We wanted to double the size of a flower bed in the front corner of our property, highly visible to the street. This was not as straightforward as it would sound since it required removing a significant amount of sod, building up the elevation of this area, moving existing landscaping lights, adding landscaping lights and moving and changing the irrigation infrastructure to the meet our new needs. The plantings in this area were also extensive. Jordan and Matt took care to use excellent materials, to discuss the needs of the irrigation both now and as the plantings would grow. They did a wonderful job working with us on the placement of the plants and laying out the centerpieces of the garden bed and adding light to enhance the appearance of the bed. It turned out just as we hoped it would. They completed the task on time and on budget and kept the site clean as they did the work. We were extremely happy and will have them back to do future work for us.

Alderwood Landscaping is a great company. After a couple meetings with Tim, he created an outdoor living space with a courtyard, water feature, and fire pit to compliment our modern/contemporary home. Pat and his crew (Drew, Tacho, and Tyler) were professional and worked hard every day. It only took us 6 weeks to complete our project. We are very happy with our final product and our water feature is a stunning piece of art (they created a water cascade from a trilogy of columnar basalt rocks)

My experience with Alderwood has been outstanding from day one to completion. They transformed my backyard that was boring, unusable and full of drainage issues, into a modern japanese inspired garden that is truly a backyard retreat for my family and friends. Alderwood Landscaping did an amazing job with our backyard. We had turf installed, a sport court, pavers and many many shrubs, trees and lighting. It turned out amazing. Exactly like the plans that Tim designed! Patrick and Drew were our onsite contacts and they made it so easy for me to know what was going on and what was coming next. They have a warranty program and our grass developed snow spots and they are going to replace the grass with new sod since grass seed didn't take. Though they may take awhile to do this they offer this warranty program so the customer can rest assured their yard will look great even if plants/grass don't take due to the weather initially.

Although we could have gone with a less expensive company we chose Alderwood for what we hoped would be a stress free experience and beautiful result, and they did not disappoint. Alderwood did a fantastic job for us starting with the great design work done by Tim followed by several months of outstanding work by the construction team. Nick was great to work with as the day to day lead - talented, creative, responsive, reliable, excellent communicator. José is a real craftsman and Matt and Mike did excellent work day in and day out, always pleasant; there was great attention to detail by everyone on the team. Johnny was excellent with budget and schedule management, change orders and issue resolution. This is a long one, so here’s the bottom line: these guys are highly professional, dedicated, responsive, experienced individuals who will bend over backwards to create your dream outdoor space. The nitty gritty—We contacted these guys in July 2017 to discuss our project involving a large covered stone patio, water feature, hot tub, and fire pit. About a week later we met with architect Tim Glass who we ended up meeting with 4 more times over the next 2 months to finalize our dream concept. While concessions had to be made in order to accommodate our budget, all the features we wanted ended up being included in some form or another. Tim doesn’t cut corners just to get a design done. He really takes the time to work and rework his plan in order to make you 100% happy. Once we approved the design and paid a hefty deposit, work was scheduled to start the week before Thanksgiving. That’s when we met the best workers and human beings we’ve gotten to meet in our lives. Our assigned team of builders showed up everyday by 7:30 am and worked daily until after dark. Seth (aka Cuddly Pitbull), the project manager, isn’t just a outstanding builder. He’s a true gentleman, an artist, a guy who takes pride in his work, a joy to have around. He and his sidekicks Collin (aka The Flash) and Jordan (aka Johnny Depp) worked steadily in the rain and the cold with the most positive attitude. I would sometimes interrupt them in the middle of challenging work to request that a certain thing be done a certain way and they would happily comply. Their energy and composure in harsh weather conditions were truly inspirational. Our project was completed in 6 weeks, quicker than expected. They left everything spotless, which was no small feat considering how muddy the whole situation had been. The result was mind blowing. Not only did everything look beautiful, but it was DONE RIGHT. No more drainage issues or poorly located sprinkler heads. The materials used make everything a breeze to maintain. We enjoyed having these guys around so much, it was hard to see them leave. The supervisory team was equally outstanding. Johnny Struiksma was in charge of communication and supervision. Not only would he stop by the job site on a regular basis, he was easy to reach via email and responded to our inquiries within a couple of hours. On the rare occasion that he wasn’t available, Dann Van Hook would step in for him. Johnny also took care of communicating with the subcontractors on our behalf, which relieved us of ay additional burden. Work and payment schedules were always communicated to us clearly, and always in writing. Towards the end of the project, Johnny emailed to make sure we didn’t have any final requests and that everything was done to our liking. It’s now been a few months since the project was completed and we LOVE our backyard. We spend more time in our outdoor space than inside, rain or shine. Alderwood is simply the best builder we’ve ever worked with and it’s heartwarming these days to know that there are still people out there who take pride in their work are not just out to make a quick buck. Sure, it was an expensive project, but we got our money’s worth and then some.

After moving into our new house, the prospect of landscaping a 1+ acre lot was daunting to say the least. However, Alderwood made it a painless and actually an enjoyable process from start to finish. The entire team consisted of true professionals who made me realize that there are still plenty of hard working people out there that take great pride in their work. Let me highlight what made this process so enjoyable: • Great design work by Kris Krohn and project management by Dann Van Hook; they did a great job listening to us and coming up with a solid plan. When I had questions, they were quick to respond and find answers. • Hard workers; team of three showed up right after July 4th and were committed to us for about the next 6 weeks. We were their sole job; they weren’t jumping back and forth between us and other projects which was tremendous. The team consistently rolled in around 7 am and worked full days to get the job done in a very timely manner. • Genuinely good people working on the job – we had the same team for basically the whole job. Great guys, all friendly and very helpful. Seth Kernodle led the team on the job site and really kept things moving along in a professional manner. One time I was moving furniture off the patio for another contractor and when I came back around the corner, all three individuals had stopped what they were doing and were instead helping me move the remaining furniture. It’s hard to find that caliber of a team these days. • Great design was made better by Seth’s implementation of new ideas on the fly. He continually looked for ways to make improvements; a little extra rock or dirt became something new and exciting in the plan as it came to life. Alderwood’s dynamic approach to implementing the design in real time was tremendous. • Attention to detail/dedication to their craft; we have some large rock retaining walls and we are always getting compliments on them. These are not your basic stacked stone/quick walls. These were carefully crafted with meticulous attention to detail. This attention to detail was repeated all throughout the project. Everything was meticulously done; great pride in their work. A great experience from start to finish – Alderwood is highly recommended.

We really wanted to create a backyard oasis, but we're a bit nervous about finding a contractor to tackle such a big job and being able to meet our standards. From the moment we initially spoke with Alderwood we felt at ease and everything was perfect. Tim Glass did a fantastic job as our architect, and overall partner on this project. His ideas were stunningly beautiful, and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted. Execution of the job was on time, on budget, and exceeded what we hoped for. Our experience with Alderwood Landscape was extremely positive from start to finish. We hired them to do extensive hardscaping on two sides of the house which included tearing out & replacing a front porch with block & pavers, replacing and enlarging a walkway and patio area to match, and building a large retaining wall and topping it with pavers to make a large patio area on the opposite side of the house. Our experience with Alderwood was wonderful from beginning to fruition. To start, Kris, our landscape architect, came to our building site to measure and discuss the project. My husband and I really had no definitive plan in mind, and so knew that we needed to feel confident in the company we chose. Kris is an excellent listener, and worked with us through several versions of a plan until we were ready to go forward. Everyone we worked with at Alderwood was very professional. When the boulders and slab rocks were delivered we were completely amazed at how beautiful and huge they were. Mike and his guys set the rocks with artistry, precision, and efficiency. Our home was built in 1927 and was in need of serious major landscaping renovations. Issues such as improper drainage, crumbling bricks, sprinkler system blockage, poor lighting and the list continues. During the summer of 2015, we met with Kris, an Alderwood representative and he made such a sincere, competent and professional impression on us that we decided to hire Alderwood to remodel our yard in 2016. Kris provided us with plans and worked with us to insure that we were creating a project that would provide perfect and doable results for us. Fast forward to the past 2 months and those plans became a reality. Our Alderwood crew was led by Mike, assisted by Colin and Ellis. These men had incredible ability, dedication and were extremely hardworking. Not only did they do what was requested, but did what was needed so that no issues will occur in the future. We hired Alderwood Landscape 2016 for a major backyard renovation. They did a beautiful job and we love our backyard, however the fountain doesn’t work and despite several unanswered calls and emails, it remains broken. We have given up our attempt to contact them. So please be warned! Once you’ve made the last payment, it’s very hard to get them to return a phone call or email address.

Alderwood designed and implemented a remodel of our backyard, which involved substantial regrading as well as removal of our existing uneven paver patios and a rotting tie wall. Our backyard went from a pretty nice backyard to a resort-style experience! The service and skill of the Alderwood staff and crew are exceptional and quite professional. We did a major project with Alderwood last year. Coming up on the 1 year guarantee for plants that didn't make it. Considering we planted approximately 300 plants the fact that we only lost 10 is truly amazing. Their warranty service is fast and efficient. Emailed them and within 2 days they were here to review plants and make replacement list. Scheduled to come by and install next week! Amazing warranty service.

Alderwood Landscapes did an extensive project for us that included a water feature, fire pit, pavers and plantings. Architect, Tim Glass did a masterful job with the overall design, exceeding our expectations. After the construction of the water feature had started, we realized it did not match what we had been envisioning. We called Tim and explained that the water feature was not working for us, and that we wanted to go a different direction with the design. Between Tim and the job foreman, Nick, we redesigned the water feature. Now the water feature is amazing! It has a very natural look and feel and has the soft sound of water that we were envisioning. Everyone at Alderwood was responsive, professional and fair. They really care that the customer is happy and take tremendous pride in their work. The foreman, Nick, went out of his way to accommodate some particular design details that we wanted. He was always patient and communicated with us very well. As a group, everyone at Alderwood worked well with our general contractor and other trades people on our project. We chose to have out stone mason do some work that was originally in Alderwoods's scope of work. Again, they were very accommodating and had no problem making adjustments to our contract accordingly. We had an old, rotting deck in our back yard that we needed to replace, but not a lot of ideas about what to do with that space. Tim came out, looked at our back yard, discussed how we use it and what we wanted, then came up with a plan.. We were very impressed with Tim's professionalism and ideas. He gave us a large draft of the design so we could clearly see what the finished project would look like and make any modifications before the project started. Dann, the project manager, was very helpful in arranging the final details, and rearranging the job schedule to accommodate an event we had planned at our home. Once the project started, we were extremely impressed with Nick, who managed the daily work, keeping us well-informed of progress, and quickly responding to any questions or concerns. Nick was a complete pleasure to work with. Most importantly, we are so pleased with the end result! We were hoping to transform our yard into a quick get away. Someplace special just outside the door. A waterfall with a stream to the pond, with a few Alpine firs along the way did just that. The fire pit and night lighting complete the resort like feel. The process is amazing….. Professional. You can tell they have done this 1,000 times, but it is pretty cool to watch it happen the first time. The design process is the key time to perfect what you want, and they did a great job adding our few changes with their great artistic vision. Their online pictures in their web site say it all. You can tell the crews are experienced, work hard and are very skilled. They earn their Better Business Bureau A+ rating. The best part is the get away feeling happens every time we look out our windows. Stunning, still, especially when the night lights come on. You will feel pampered, like a 5 star resort, and your friends and family will remind you how blessed you are when they visit.

We interviewed several landscapers in our area and it was a no brainer to go with Alderwood. They came out to our house for the consultation and were right on time. We explained what we wanted, but were open for ideas. Once they sent over the drawings for review, we were very impressed. They were very easy to work with. Responded quickly to all of our calls, emails and requests. When the work started, they were here everyday, even when it rained. They focused on our project and got it done within the time frame expected. We had some settling and they came and out fixed any issue we had right away. They are artists and well worth it.

There are many things that Alderwood did right on our project, but some areas that could have been better. They completely overhauled our back yard, for a hefty price tag of about $110k. The work included the design for changes to the layout of the yard, installation of a large patio, placement of large landscape rocks, sod and plantings, new sprinkler system, as well as a covered outdoor kitchen area (the outdoor kitchen/structure was contracted to another company through Alderwood). After some road bumps working with Alderwood, after almost a year I am almost happy. The patio work is beautiful, and well done. The layout works well, and the placement of the landscape rocks and use of rock for steps is really nice. The downfalls I encountered had to do with the length of time it took to complete the project, and the planting portion of the work. The company got very busy during our project and work became sporadic. Part of this I believe is because they are based on the other side of the state and weren't over here for the entire work week. I think the other reason is because they were spread too thin and had to work on other jobs before ours was complete. As a result, they were rushed in the end and did the plantings without any discussion about what I wanted. After months of going back and forth, they have refunded a portion of the cost for the plants that I did not like. I had to purchase plants I liked and I installed the new plantings myself to get it to my liking. Alderwood people are coming back soon to re-do the bark topping since I've replanted, to pressure wash the patio so they can finally sand the pavers, and also to re-do the sod, which didn't take well in many spots. I feel that they made a good effort to fix the issues with this project, and they stand by their work.

We had a home that was exquisite in every way – except - we found out that a six bedroom home needed to have a backyard play area for the children who would occupy those bedrooms. Our house was great, the Real Estate Agent said after a month of looky-lou viewings, but it needed a backyard play area. We asked Alderwood Landscaping to create a design that would be economical, and yet provide a play area. We live on a hillside, so the challenge was not trivial. A Landscape Architect visited and quietly absorbed the setting, made measurements and provided us with the perfect solution utilizing a retaining wall and pathways so the kids could be observed from inside the house. I was amazed at the detail and the creative insights involved in what essentially was a simple approach, but made to look very high-end to match the home and neighborhood. We had a fantastic experience working with Alderwood Landscaping on a complete overhaul and redesign of our backyard. We started by working with Tim, a landscape architect, who helped us figure out exactly what we wanted in our backyard. He answered all of our questions, met with us on multiple occasions and reworked plans/drawings until they were just right. The demolition included ripping out an existing deck/patio, moving a hot tub, removal of old landscaping, and much more. I bought a home overlooking Coeur D Alene lake in early 2013. I contacted Alderwood in Spokane to discuss a spa and patio in that spring. Kris, a designer at Alderwood met with me at my house. He advised they often work with natural rock and offered a very reasonable initial price for a design drawing and quote. As part of the initial drawing, Alderwood had a surveyor record the property elevations, (my property is on a mountainside). I had another couple meetings with Kris to review the design drawing. Initially, I thought I might greatly change things on the drawings, but after walking the property, I realized the elevation changes favored the design layout proposed. As we discussed the layout, the drawing was revised only twice with minor changes to the final design that Alderwood subsequently completed. I came to have great confidence in Kris’s design capabilities and his advice on many items. (I was changing the exterior of the house at that time as well). I feel I benefited considerably from the expertise of the Alderwood personnel doing the landscape per the plan, which was accomplished within a summer month. The products used for the lighting, sprinkler systems, patio railing, wood wall to enclose a side of the house patio, pavers, and stone steps, was top quality in function and appearance. Alderwood’s design and installation way exceeded the quality and creativity a homeowner could do on their own and compares favorably with work done on the highest priced estates. The project totally transformed the property adding outdoor living space to more enjoy the great view from about a 600 ft elevation above of Coeur D Alene lake. I found Alderwood easy to work with on this fairly involved and complex project.

We hired Alderwood to replace our patio, which included removing old concrete steps and slab, re-grading and raising the level. Our house is on a steep hill, and equipment access to the back yard is limited. Alderwood was creative in their approach to this problem. Although the original plan to cover the stairs that lead to the yard with gravel in order to provide an access path for the Bobcat didn't work out as hoped (stairs were rotted), Alderwood removed and rebuilt the steps and only charged us for the materials. Almost any project like this will present unexpected challenges, but the entire project went very smoothly because of the Alderwood team's professionalism and commitment to doing a high quality job despite any obstacles. The project manager, Nick, had great communication skills and kept us informed of any changes or schedule adjustments. He replaced plants that were inadvertently killed during the job and was always very accommodating. The team's attention to detail was amazing. They replaced the gravel along the side of the driveway in an area that they had used as a staging area for loads of rock and dirt and even pressure-washed our long driveway when they were done. We were extremely happy with Alderwood and would absolutely recommend them.

We moved to a new construction home that did not have any backyard landscaping on the lot, so my wife and I went to the Spokane Home Show and came across the impressive Alderwood booth/display, and hired them to design the yard so that that we could get the basics this year, and then add on additional elements over the next few years so we could keep everything within budget. We were very impressed with the blueprint Kris drew out for us, and we hired Alderwood's team to complete the 'year 1' phase of the blueprint, and everything has exceeded our expectations. There have been a few issues with the grass seeding and hydration cycles due to our sandy hillside soil (and probably the extreme heat we had earlier this summer), and the team has been quick to reply and come back to the house on several occasions to touch things up for no additional cost. The working crew, led by Seth, was fun-loving, detailed oriented, conscientious and efficient. This project was in conjunction with a major home remodel, and the visible value and enjoyment that has come as the result of our water feature and expanded patio area including a fire pit, have greatly enhanced our home value and our stay-at-home enjoyment. We have nothing but good things to say about the the most important aspects - our backyard looks amazing, was done on time, and came in on budget. We have received effusive compliments from everybody who has seen our back yard. Tim, our architect, showed a lot of patience working with us to tune the design to meet our budget and work with some existing constraints in our yard. The end result was a picture-perfect space that we will enjoy for years to come. Dann, the project manager, was good to work with and responsive to our questions. He was happy to perform collaborative installations of some products we had bought ourselves. Joe, who was the point man on for the crew, was awesome to work with. He was very customer service oriented and went out of his way to make us happy. Nick and Jose were also great and did everything they could to meet our schedule, including a dedicated clean-up job. Alderwood quickly resolved any issues that arose and any requests we had during installation. The only aspect that could have been better was communication about the actual project schedule (what days they were doing which parts of the work) ahead of time. Overall, Alderwood did a great job and we would highly recommend them to anybody looking to beautify their yard.

Alderwood is the best. I was referred to Alderwood initially because they performed the original front-yard landscaping at my house for my builder. Therefore, after buying the house I talked to them about finishing the backyard. They came up with a design plan that could be implemented in stages and the results were fantastic. They basically turned what could best be described as a gravel pit to a green, comfortable space for my family. As our needs have changed and our family grown, we've had them back to add features like a fire pit, play set, and so on. Their designs look like something out of a magazine and they will work with you to get the most out of your budget. I highly suggest them, you cannot ask for better.

I had contacted 3 landscape architecture firms late last year and quickly decided to go with Alderwood. Our project began in late January this year and was finished end of February. This company is unbelievable. Everyone from the owner/designer to all the staff members were great - professional, knowledgeable, hardworking, efficient, prompt, responsive, courteous, friendly, and easy to work with. The project was completed on schedule even though the weather was not cooperating. When the project was finally done, the end result was amazing. It totally transformed our backyard. Everyone including family members, friends and neighbors were totally impressed. Of course, our family was excited and extremely happy. Alderwood also did a great follow-up visit and replaced a couple of plants that were not growing as well. In all, to me, this is total satisfaction.

I have a small backyard and high expectations for the space. I hired Alderwood Landscape because I knew first hand of their reputation as my previous neighbor had contracted with them and the results were amazing. The results for me were equally amazing. We needed to include a hot tub, water feature, a space for a fire pit and fencing not to mention removing an existing deck. The entire process took only two weeks thanks to the hard work of the entire crew from the architect to the foreman to the actual workers. We hired Alderwood Landscape to redesign and relandscape our yard, take out our concrete driveway and install a paver driveway. The entire team was a pleasure to work with, always concerned that we were happy with the process and the final product. Our project was a big undertaking and there were hicups, but the crew was great at troubleshooting and working with us.
