SY: this is pretty beautiful. thoughts? too plain? not sure about open shelves for you? how about the cutout handles? AH: Not sure about open shelves either--probably would prefer more cabinets. Not sure about cut-out handles too... SY: ALSO RETURNING TO THE QUESTION OF PULLS... THESE ARE CUT OUT. THE BLUE-GRAY KITCHEN BELOW HAS GOLA RAILS. OR OF COURSE WE COULD GO WITH MORE TRADITIONAL (THOUGH CLEAN-LINED) PULLS. THOUGHTS?
SY: This is such a great palette, IMO. :) Are you keeping the green walls in the family/dining area? Tell me your thoughts on this space - the overall feel and the specific materials? AH: We are most likely keeping the olivey green walls in the living space; however, that could change. I like the red accents, just as in the first photo ;-). Right now that might not look great with the green. That's part of why we went with orange walls in our current kitchen. SY: we could do this palette in kitchen: gray blue with darker countertops and wood accents. This is really gorgeous... but I'd want you to go with neutral walls throughout, including the family room. We'd get you a red teapot. :) . SY: INCIDENTALLY HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THESE INTEGRATED "GOLA RAIL" PULLS?
SY: this is clean and bright and simple and feels scandinavian. thoughts on the feel of this space? and also the specifics: cabinet color and door profile? countertop and shelf finish? I like the idea of doing this kind of putty color; it's not as glaring as white, but it contrasts with all the wood on your floors and trim. What cabinet finish did you envision? AH: Again, I'm not sure about a lot of open shelves. I am realizing in looking at these that we do want handle pulls on our cabinets, I think. (That's not directly about this photo.) I'm open to putty--I don't know what all the options are, but it seems light but not too bright. SY: coming back to this image, I love this color palette and backsplash/countertop for you. With some wood contrasting and your existing maple floors. Can we go this direction? AH: truthfully, I do like a little more color; maybe we can do some splashes of color too? SY: Absolutely. But note that in this case, the kitchen is background. You have so much color in the adjacent room that I don't think anything we do in the kitchen will feel devoid of color. Plus kitchens often want to be backdrops to life, which is colorful! Bananas, teapot, rugs, light...
beautiful pop of color to go just outside kitchen with a plant on it by the deck windows :)
pantry thoughts (showing microwave); amy: I think we need the microwave in the main part of kitchen. SY: check.
you could do this sort of thing in front of the bump-out. it'd be full counter depth, but only 18" deep inside.; amy: yes, I think we should try something like this SY: cool.
microwave in pantry - just sitting on a shelf.
pantry can be as finished/unfinished as you wish... amy: probably this is more finished than we need. SY: yes, it's all sorts of finished. :)
this is a below-counter convection / built-in microwave - not sure you want or need that but just so you see the difference between this and the previous images of simple shelves housing microwaves. amy: I don't think we need it built in. SY: cool.
one type of option for microwave/toaster storage unit sitting on counter, that you can shut the door on. amy: yes, something like this would be good.
microwave shelf built into lower cabinet. better for children to use, and again, gets it off the counter. amy: we like this, or an upper shelf--but lower would be better for now. SY: ok. I just need your microwave dimensions / make / model please. SY: This microwave shelf is 18h x 24w x 18d.
microwave shelf in upper cabinet - a good solution to get it off the counter, but inaccessible for children if you want them to be able to use it. amy: see prior comment. SY: addtl info on this one: MICROWAVE SHELF = 18h x 30w x 20d for MICROWAVE that is 21 3/4"W X 12 3/16"H X 18"D - 3" AIR SPACE ABOVE AND TO EACH SIDE OF UNIT
SY: lovely palette here. thoughts? AH: I like it but am not sure the mullioned cabinets and windows would be right for our house. SY: right, yes - just the colors here.
SY: this is interesting and lovely. thoughts on this? AH: not sure about the black cabinets...
SY: thoughts on this space, feel and palette? AH: This is pretty and light. Though I like a bit more color accents.
SY: that same kitchen. Note the wrapped beam. Could be nice for you. AH: Yes, this is very pretty.
SY: this feels ever so Scandinavian modern to me - and a good mix of materials. Maybe wood could be nice... Your thoughts? AH: I think this kitchen is very pretty; I like the cabinetry. We love wood, although I know it's in vogue to paint cabinets.
SY: this is beautiful, but I think you'll be more inclined to go light cabinets instead of dark in that space, no? AH: Yes, I think we need a lighter look (although I agree this is pretty).
SY: this looks like maybe something you'd dig - if we were doing shallow shelves where the bumpout is. thoughts? AH: I do like the shelves with the colorful objects; yes, that could be really nice.
Palette and cabinet style? AH: too plain
wood inside
