Chiswick W4 1TN - I live here with my husband Joel, my daughter Eleanor (6), my son Sebastian (4) and two cats Giggsy and Charcoal " What did you do to the space and how long did it take you? It took over a year - we did the side return and extended slightly further into our side alleyway (the house is semi detached), and did lots of structural work to the house to allow for the back sliding doors and kitchen area (knocking out chimney breasts etc) and adding in a downstairs cloakroom. Previously the space was very dark and still had the supporting walls of the original Victorian house - so we wanted to open it out, make it open plan and incorporate a dining area for entertaining as well as a family/kids play area. " Who helped you with the project? We used an architect to help us get the plans through planning (although I couldn't recommend them, they weren't very good), our building contractor, a structural engineer and a quantitive surveyor. We also used a a specialist kitchen joiner to replicate a Bulthaup style kitchen design. " What's your favourite feature? The vintage lighting over the dining table and the bert and may tile splash back " How much did it cost?
