1. Lift the LoadWhen you open up a space, by definition, you’re going to need to knock down a few walls. Although load-bearing walls are structurally important to the home, there are ways to replace them. “A lot of clients aren’t aware that they can take out a load-bearing wall,” Stiles says.The kitchen seen here, in San Francisco’s Presidio Heights neighborhood, had a load-bearing wall through the middle of where the island is now. Stiles put a steel beam in the ceiling to pick up the load and open up the room. “Creating a space that would match their lifestyle wouldn’t have been possible” had the wall remained, he says.See more of this project
I love the feel of this kitchen; everything except the stainless steel stove vent and fridge.
