Originally built in 1690, the kitchen wing was added in 1890. John Starck’s redesign of this pre-Colonial home, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, required special attention to detail. Starck worked closely with the homeowner, complementing her Country French décor choices with high end appliances and treatments. Ric Marder Imagery

Looking at this home today, you would never know that the project began as a poorly maintained duplex. Luckily, the homeowners saw past the worn façade and engaged our team to uncover and update the Victorian gem that lay underneath. Taking special care to preserve the historical integrity of the 100-year-old floor plan, we returned the home back to its original glory as a grand, single family home. The project included many renovations, both small and large, including the addition of a a wraparound porch to bring the façade closer to the street, a gable with custom scrollwork to accent the new front door, and a more substantial balustrade. Windows were added to bring in more light and some interior walls were removed to open up the public spaces to accommodate the family’s lifestyle. A Victorian Laundry and mudroom with tiles and flooring inspired by the client's international travels. The floor tiles are reminiscent of the Doge's Palace flooring and the splashback tiles have names of their favourite cities. Soft colours and a bright storage unit create a unique style. There once was a time when families spent the evening gathered happily around a warm flame, not a television. The Windsor Arch evokes this era, providing timeless beauty and bold craftsmanship. As Victorian castings accompany highlighted chrome, flames within radiate steady, even heat for many years to come.
